I worked at First Place for Youth full-time for more than 4 years

    Pros

for direct line staff, the flexible schedule, mileage reimbursement, and flexibility in professional development opportunities are unbeatable. most of the mid-managers are pretty strong and support their staff. direct line staff can easily take PTO without feeling guilty, and can freely take mental health days.

    Cons

the outcome and productivity metrics can be tough to meet, and at times feel unrealistic. the pay is good, but could be better for the bay area

    Advice to Management

don't be afraid of change, support strong staff by providing rewards/praise/acknowledgement for good work being done, encourage more inter-office bonding and collaboration

    Negative Outlook

I have been working at First Place for Youth full-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

Coworkers are great, that's about it.

    Cons

Management, horrible, total disaster. Extremely high turnover. About 3-5 people leave First Place in a month! Staff cares more about their reviews and getting a raise than the youth.

    Positive Outlook

I have been working at First Place for Youth full-time

    Pros

First Place for Youth's culture is one of team work, support and dedication to the young people served. There is a great passion, from everyone working at the agency, to help foster youth achieve their goals of independence.

    Cons

The agency promotes and supports a healthy work/life balance. It is challenging at times, to be successful at finding a balance because of the population served, however, everyone on the team, supports finding a balance.

    Neutral Outlook

I have been working at First Place for Youth full-time for more than 6 years

    Pros

Pay and flexibility. Celebrations can be fun

    Cons

Top heavy management. CEO is great but there are way too many chiefs after that. A lot social workers with master degrees who are disconnected from the population they serve. So caught up in the letters after their names and very disrespectful to colleagues. Service department enables poor behavior and do not make Youth Advocates (who are MIA most of the time NOT meeting with youth) accountable. They are so afraid...

    Advice to Management

Press pause...rewind and stop chasing money and trying the be the biggest until you have success in really being the best. Not the best that you sell in you elevator speech but the best were you data person doesn't have to change information or your managers are so caught up in how smart they think they are that they don't realize they are clueless about the real mission and how to really impact a young person's life
