I worked at First Student part-time

    Pros

In Charleston, IL you work around the schedule of the schools, so holiday and weekends are off.

    Cons

The male side of management is totally rude and unbecoming. They consistently degrade employees and have a high tolerance for company gossip. They also do not value minority workers.

    Advice to Management

Teach male management how to deal with employees, included but not limited to how they talk to employees and how they manage the building as a whole.

I worked at First Student part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Weekends off, holidays off, lots of time off for breaks and teacher in service work days, Late starts, mostly working alone. The one great staff member was trainer Angelique. She really wanted you to succeed.

    Cons

The management and dispatch staff were lazy and ungrateful. No one gives you directions or good maps for your regular routes or any trips you sign up for. Only two sick days all year. The way they treat any driver that has an accident/incident is horrible. I would watch the management and other drivers shun and disrespect any driver with an accident. They only require 17 hrs of training before they send you off on your own. Not enough training to be confident driving a bus. You can ask for extra training but it won't happen. Everyone is always grumpy. No incentive to stay there.

    Advice to Management

Take care of your drivers. Give them enough information to do their job and stay informed about their routes. More training. More training. More training.
