I worked at First Transit full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The is competitive and increases yearly for five years, with cost of living increases after that. Opportunities for overtime abound. Ther are well-defined and generous employee benefits. Mandatory monthly meetings keep all operators up-to-date on company goals and initiatives, as well as the progress in achieving them, and reinforce the mission, vision, and values of the organization.

    Cons

First, the immediate yearly raises (for five years) combined with the lack of financial incentives, discourage operators from engaging in continuous performance improvement. Second, though management touts safety as their number one priority, they don't encourage transparency as a means of creating safer environments. Operators are punished for 'safety violations' that the company deems 'preventable,' rather than encouraged to speak up about unsafe events to facilitate systemic changes. The latter approach would encourage transparency and allow the company to make significant improvements leading to safer outcomes. Finally, there aren't very many opportunities for career advancement.

    Advice to Management

Invest and engage in the transition from a culture of blame to a just culture. There are much greater rewards to be reaped in the latter.

I have been working at First Transit full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

There are no pros to First Transit. Just ask the drivers contracted out in 2010. Lost pay, benefits and many lost jobs due to wrongful terminations.

    Cons

Hostile and unethical environment. Low pay or no pay on time. Cheats at every opportunity. Violates federal, state laws/regulations and the contract. Always a fight to get proper pay.

    Advice to Management

Wake up and be honest. Treat your employees with respect and respect the contract to which you sign your names to. Pay employees a decent wage and pay the increases when contractually agreed to...not late.
