I have been working at First Trust Portfolios L.P. full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

It's a great family atmosphere. The pay is a bit low for the industry, but quite generous for the workload. You work 7.5 hours a day, and have moderate autonomy. So, the work-life balance is wonderful.

    Cons

The bulk of their software is written in the obscure language Delphi. They aren't necessarily open to new creative ideas. They know their niche and are sticking to it.

  2. "Very Good Place"

    Pros

Easy going and relaxed, yet still very full of learning and opportunity.

    Cons

Sometimes mundane work makes the day go by slow.

    Pros

The company did a really good job of balancing work and life. Overall, the people are friendly and the company is well run. From a competitive standpoint, their ability to respond to advisers' needs is impressive. From an IT standpoint, the company is A+. I really only have positive things to say about the company.

    Cons

I don't have any major complaints. Overall, my time there was mutually rewarding. The sales-driven culture might be a strength, as well as a weakness.

    Advice to Management

Basically, it's what I said before look to the long-term and be prepared to embrace investment vehicles that might cannibalize current sales.

    Pros

Small company, get to know everyone in the office even if you don't work with them directly. Work with great people and there is a great sense of community in the work place

    Cons

Because it's a small firm, hiring from the intern pool is extremely competitive because very few are hired. Often need to have an "in" with someone at the company in order to be considered.

    Advice to Management

Great company, keep developing younger talent through the internship pool to make the company grow from within.

    Cons

    Unprofessional
Your ideas do not matter, the input you place into the product and how to advise the clients, does not matter.
    Quantity is favored above quality

    Advice to Management

Cannot get management to respond to product concerns or ideas.
