I worked at FirstEnergy for less than a year

    Pros

Decent salary, room for growth inside the company. Solid Benefits. Great team of people. Strong emphasis on safety.

    Cons

Physically very demanding. Not a lot of training. A lot of potential hazards to do with on a daily basis.

    Advice to Management

More time following a veteran reader. Less time in the classroom training and more in field training.

"Don't leave your good job for this one!!!"

    Meter Reader in Youngstown, OH

    I worked at FirstEnergy

    Pros

Good work schedule Monday-Friday overtime on Saturdays was on a volunteer basis when offered. Immediate supervisor very helpful. Good co-workers. Working outdoors. Good exercise.

    Cons

Have to use your own personal vehicle a lot of wear and tear. You are reimbursed for mileage but that doesn't come close to cover costly auto repairs! Hard to get in full time unless your in one of the few union shops. Looks like they hire and use a lot of contractors and let you go at end of contract. Expect to walk many miles daily. Phasing out meter readers jobs in Ohio in the near future just like they did in Pennsylvania-smart meters. No benefits for contractors.
