I have been working at FirstEnergy full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Fairly consistent schedule, fair pay for the position, good management, you work at your own pod, and are sitting for most of the day.

    Cons

You get cussed out and berated daily by customers, not a lot of paid time off until you've been hired for at least a year.

    Advice to Management

The management is great at this call center. If you mess up they take you aside and coach you on what you did wrong. They don't belittle you but genuinely try to help you out.

I worked at FirstEnergy as an intern

    Pros

Gave me the opportunity to be a project manager as an intern. It was stressful, but rewarding when the project was over

    Cons

People are generally unhappy at the workplace; workers on my first day there were telling me to not work there as a job, as it would be a bad choice. My supervisor was taking on the job of 4 people.

    Advice to Management

Hire more employees to reduce stress on the individual supervisors.

    Cons

Management (some, not all) can make unreasonable demands

    Advice to Management

Tell employees what needs to be done, then listen.

    Pros

Compensation is competitive. Enjoy the people.

    Cons

Personal Growth is slow here in terms of moving up. In some cases a 3 person job is expected to be done by one person. Work moral is low.

    Advice to Management

Feel that compensation could be better for the work that is done.

I worked at FirstEnergy full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Average Pay, good place to get experience but not a place to get paid or have a career.

    Cons

Average Pay, expensive benefits, poor management from top to bottom with a selfish greedy CEO that is on his way out due to retirement. A company that is positioning itself to be bought out.

I have been working at FirstEnergy full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The company has a nice pension plan, which they are replacing with a 401K style approach for new hires. The company has many experienced leaders who will help if asked.

    Cons

The company is constantly announcing layoffs. Upward mobility is limited for the unconnected. Easy to get lost in the shuffle with so many employees. Training documentation is limited.

    Advice to Management

Develop standards for training documentation. Employees are expected to pick up concepts without any formal explanations.

I have been working at FirstEnergy full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good pay, fairly good benefits, a lot of good people. I have had the opportunity to work on a lot of important projects. FirstEnergy has a lot of money available to them, and when necessary, they take actions to improve their generating stations.

    Cons

Some managers are focused but others have been very incompetent, bull headed, and very difficult to deal with. Some management decisions have been very poor, and for some projects, a lack of implementation and training after "go live". FirstEnergy tends to just "throw things" at the employees, and let them deal with the issues that result.

    Advice to Management

Encourage their employees to build teams based on systems that are common across the fleet. In some cases, corporate support for some nuclear departments is non-existent, and this needs to be addressed at a high level.

I have been working at FirstEnergy full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good pay, pressure is not overwhelming most of the time, good facilities, bigger city job in a small city, easy commute.

    Cons

Older male dominated top level management; Many policies are not well thought out and hinder efficient operations; Still struggling and slow at adopting and employing new technologies; Management doesn't listen well, and is out of touch with the front line workings.

    Advice to Management

Listen to others with experience, and employ lessons learned from others instead of making mistakes on your own. There is significant room for process improvements across the system.
