I worked at FirstMerit full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Benefits were decent and the starting pay was higher than other banking positions I have heard of. They did teach me a lot about banking and how to deal with irate customers.

    Cons

Poor Poor Poor management. Punished you for things that are not even in your job title. This company made me choose between my Children and work. (and Im not even talking about during working and bank hours. This was after hours.) Very caddy. Managers hire outside personal friends and go out drinking all the time. Staffing was so limited it made for long wait times for customers.

    Pros

They seem to have a lot to offer their customers, which was nice. However, the dental insurance sucked and the mantra of leadership was awful.

    Cons

They prefer their staff to work all the time and give very little pay. They never want to give their management time off, and it is expected to work 6 days a week often.

I worked at FirstMerit (More than 3 years)

    Pros

401k match, company paid life insurance 1x your salary, reasonable eye and dental care.

    Cons

Besides the benefits, working for this company can be very discouraging. There are slim chances for promotions unless you are in a management or executive position. Raises are low, because profit is paid to management and the likes. There is an overall culture of laziness, gossip and favoritism and non-ethical behavior seems to run rampant throughout. ie: gambling, alcohol on the premises, use of racial slurs and profanity. Overall, a dodgy company to do business with or work for.

    Advice to Management

Be observant, because there is always someone watching your behavior. Value your employees, quit fratronizing and showing partial treatment to "friends" and use professional language while on company grounds.
