I have been working at Fisher Investments full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Fisher genuinely offers their employees the best of the best including a competitive salary with a hard to match bonus potential, fully paid medical benefits, and generous PTO in a professional environment. Fisher’s goal is pure and simple, support employees as people first. Perhaps most attractive is the promise to allow employees to leave work at work, after the schedule day ends, work life balance is guaranteed. ...

I have been working at Fisher Investments full-time for more than 4 years

    Pros

A lot of responsibility, small pond

    Cons

Hierarchical, political, traditional, formal, non-technical, bureaucratic

    Advice to Management

Stop promoting based on tenure and will-do, and start hiring/training based on should-do. Invest heavily in technology and individuals who can leverage it.

I worked at Fisher Investments full-time for more than 4 years

    Pros

-Pay is good, especially in the Portland area. If you work hard, track your accomplishments, and present them to management, it's possible to get raises often and be at a comfortable base pay. -Bonuses twice a year reflect both your current work success & the company success. These can be large, which is an easy way to save up large chunks of cash or max out a 401k. -50% match on 401k. That means you can max out...

    Cons

-Mandatory 50 hour work weeks. Such a headache that encourages employees to stretch out work to fill the hours. -Inflexible hours. I worked 7am to 5pm every day. -No remote working allowed at all. Really tough when the hours get really long and you have a family at home to take care of. -Some more tenured employees are overly fascinated by Ken Fisher & it's weird. -Diversity is lacking. IPC is made up of 5 wealthy...

    Advice to Management

-Demonstrate more TRUST in your employees by throwing out the rigid hours & mandatory 50-hour work weeks. And let them work remote when it's reasonable (i.e., Mom with a kid sick at home) -Encourage more diversity in the workplace by hiring more women and POC. Then follow that up by listening to their feedback. How many women have quit because they didn't feel they could have a family & work there?? Look at...

I have been working at Fisher Investments full-time for more than 6 years

    Pros

Great pay and benefits for the area.

    Cons

The good pay does not make up for the toxic culture and poor management at Fisher. - Management has decided to continue requiring 10 hour days for most departments. People largely draw out less work to fit a longer day. Terrible for morale. - Most senior managers have spent their entire career at Fisher. They lack outside perspective to their detriment. - Technological infrastructure is falling apart; very little...

Hire outside of Fisher for senior positions--diversity of experience will only strengthen the company. Listen to the employees. Your top performers are leaving for a reason.

I worked at Fisher Investments full-time for more than 4 years

    Pros

    Money. That's about it.

    Cons

50+ hour work weeks, an incredibly mismanaged UK Group, very much a man's world - most of the higher paying Investment Counsellor roles are held by men, whereas the much lower-paying admin/CSA roles are held by women. The hours don't allow women to advance as easily as they want to start families - it would be impossible for you to drop your child off at daycare before the mandatory 6 am start time and there is ZERO flexibility...

I worked at Fisher Investments for more than 6 years

    Pros

I loved working at Fisher. They look after their employees and their customers. Of course it depends on the managers you have, but if you're willing to work and willing to help others, then Fisher is good for you! Their customer process is brilliant.

    Cons

Their could be more focus on how people act in their social life outside of Fisher. Because the culture is very business related.

I worked at Fisher Investments full-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

You have a chance to work with some smart people and, depending on the role, there are some challenging problems to work on. If you perform well you can get good visibility with senior management. If you aren't in a sales role, Fisher will go out of their way to find a better fit within the company for an underperforming employee rather than letting them go. Some managers are willing to provide regular, helpful...

    Cons

The culture can be toxic with employees attempting to "throw others under the bus" and managers swearing at their subordinates (this comes from the very top and trickles down). Technology is outdated and largely not transferable. The talent level is subpar. Rigid work schedule (be there by 7 am, can't leave until 5 pm). Fisher bills itself as a meritocracy but is quicker to reward employees based on how long they...

    Advice to Management

Encourage management to treat subordinates with more respect and to resolve conflicts between employees more effectively. Loosen up on the work hours and dress code if you want to remain competitive with young talent, particularly in the Bay area with so much flexibility offered by tech companies. Follow your own advice of challenging conventional wisdom.

    Pros

Lots of different hats to wear, lots of work to do and lots of opportunities to learn. Very good situation if you are a self starter

    Cons

Lots of red tape, some ideas get stuck in the pipeline, even though they are easy to implement.

    Advice to Management

Cut the red tape and get with the times in terms of salary, hours, and what is necessary to build a solid company.

I worked at Fisher Investments full-time for more than 4 years

    Pros

If you are hired as a manager (TL/PM or above) or first job out of college, this is a decent opportunity. Free coffee. Excellent 401k if you can afford to max it. Don't bother working here if you don't max your 401k because there are no other benefits or perks of note.

    Cons

Very young inexperienced workforce. Especially true in lower management. People hired right out of college 10 years ago when the firm was small are now the leaders and managers of a much larger firm and are way out of their depths. FI has to accommodate for this fact by hiring highly qualified individuals into terribly demanding roles with little management leadership or ability to effectuate drastically needed organizational...

    Advice to Management

Conduct a 360-degree skills and experience assessment of all employees and reorganize accordingly. It'll be a tough six months but a much better company will emerge on the other side. You'll be doing a favor for all the bad managers in helping they go get other experience.
