Pros
Nice people, clean store, great location
Cons
No cons other than all self checkout

Pros
They’ll hire you on the spot and are flexible with your availability
Cons
Management will demand perfection while boxes of stock will pile up in the warehouse and on the sales floor. Managers will also talk behind your back. Managers will give you either too much to do at once or not give you anything to do, making the job incredibly stressful or boring. There is no break room, just a small corner in the back. There are no employees working in the morning, so I’m left organizing the store, doing my assigned tasks, greeting everyone, and working the cash registers. (There is no self checkout at my store) Management will give you an assignment with little to no training, expect you to do it properly, and then get mad when you have questions. There’s no inventory system, so putting away items is a guessing game. Store is constantly a mess and the lack of employees, adequate hours, and an adequate inventory system make it difficult to make the store (especially the back) look nice.

Pros
Great learning experience, small store so you wont feel isolated, doesn't get crazy busy during Black Friday like many retail stores.
Cons
Below average pay for management, your experience heavily depends on the store you work for, not enough hours for many associates and support leads.

Pros
Great health care plan for full time employees!
Cons
The company posted about how the company cares about mental health on linkedin but in reality, it doesn't. I have never once been asked about my mental health. The current DM expects the store managers to work 6-7 days a week (not paid overtime) and work an unhealthy amount of overtime instead of increasing their budget to hire more people throughout the year. One of their sayings is hold the penny hostage for theft prevention which is ironic since they hold the penny hostage for their own employees too and pay the bare minimum, overwork employees, and then wonder why everyone leaves.

Pros
Decent people The work isn’t hard In the right areas this is an easy going job With the right DM work won’t feel like a hassle My fellow peers are extremely helpful even previous peers from another district are helpful Five below is very flexible in terms of scheduling as well as meeting your needs You will not find another retail company with a more understanding HR at least for the mid Atlantic region It’s nice that they let you travel to help other stores and pay for your travel It’s a family environment
Cons
Work life balance is tough Working in city five belows can get tough if you aren’t much a people person Training needs to be more of a priority Background checks are great and all but they don’t tell me if someone can do the job or is a semi decent human being More screening candidates would be nice

Pros
Room to grow. Great teams when time to vet properly. Customers love our products. Marketing is done a fantastic job of driving sales to all sorts of demographics.
Cons
Security, More allocation of hours for morning shifts for freight. Reevaluate the closure of Self check out stations. bottom line money have been used to put in equipment that is deprecating. Minimum training hours given to labor so all employees have correct tools. Revolving door will stop and bottom line Retention will help push Five Below into the Black . As a Western Division Training General Manager It would be my pleasure to work at as a upper management employee for Five Below.

Pros
Fun environment Decent employee discount Growth potential
Cons
“Hold the penny hostage” should apply anywhere but with your employees. PAY BETTER!!! You can afford to. It’s ok to go Into debt for your employees so they can make a livable wage. All the best talent isn’t being attracted because of the current pay model. Should be allowed to wear whatever you want within reason. Or let your employees wear the shirts you buy from the shirt wall. Every company I’ve worked for previously was given some welcome package. At least a book bag, a notepad, pen, a welcome gift card. All I got as a Store Manager was an ugly baseball tee shirt and a measly two week training that wasn’t super thorough. Manager schedule guidelines are awful let your managers run the business and have work/life balance. FB is trying to be Claire’s for some reason and snuck Ear piercing into their store operations. Retail businesses being responsible for punching holes into people.

- 1.0Nov 16, 2023LeadCurrent Employee, more than 1 yearSmyrna, TN
Pros
20% discount is cool, and that’s all.
Cons
Where do I even begin.. 1. Started off as part time lead, now working 50-55 hours a week making part time lead pay. A full time lead works 1 day a week yet makes full time pay. 2. Breaks are non existent, unless your management 3. Customers are so rude. You’re expected to bend over backwards for people who cuss you out, call you the R slur, and much more. 4. Coworkers are usually high schoolers who don’t want to work. 5. Management DOES NOT CARE ABOUT YOU 6. Our store quite literally has mold on numerous shelves AND rats in the attic/loft. Not good work environment at all. 7. You’ll be expected to do the job of 5 people, over the course of 10 hours, making $12. Without a break usually. 8. There is no moving up, unless you’re hired in as management, you won’t be moved up or given a raise.
