I have been working at Five Star Senior Living full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

This company is very large, but still values all of their employees. Even the executive have the same attitude about why we all value being a five star company

    Cons

The company is very large and with that things can often get overlooked by the higher level. More communication will all employees would be better

I worked at Five Star Senior Living full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Five Star typically has incredibly beautiful communities, and I have always loved working with seniors.

    Cons

The communities are not managed well. Regional management does not give management at the community level the tools they need to be successful, and they are more concerned about the bottom line than making sure that communities are staffed appropriately to be able to provide acceptable care for residents

    Advice to Management

Empower communities to pay staff what they need to be able to keep them, and don't trust regional management as much as you do.

I worked at Five Star Senior Living full-time

    Pros

Great residents and productive staff when motivated by some great managers. Good orientation and in-service/training. Corporate management involved when necessary to help staff. Team of managers and staff pulled together when necessary in crisis situations. Committees and in place to reward and appreciate staff.

    Cons

Genuine positive support from Administrator for all departments necessary. Micro-management and anger/power issues at my location from Administrator. A culture of fear the staff had of the Administrator made for toxic work environment. Yelling and reprimanding directly at managers in group or public meetings, walking out of meetings, and generally being upset at work was not pleasant or productive for staff or residents.

    Advice to Management

Corporate needs to come in unannounced to see the actual demeanor of the Administrator with managers and staff and possibly needs to remove Administrator to save morale and community from negative outcomes. Turnover of managers Administrator puts on good show for corporate but I have heard from EVERY manager

    Advice to Management

Learn to fallow California law it's the employees right to know about health code violations and u think it's funny that this company would fault an employee for quitting when they don't fallow the law hagaga
