I have been working at Five Star Senior Living full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

There are multiple locations. Minimal micromanaging.

    Cons

Company is constantly adding new responsibilities making job very stressful and difficult to complete tasks, with no help. No employee appreciation. All about the bottom dollar. Corporate staff have huge egos and no flexibility for the human side of its employees who work really hard. They are cheap!

    Advice to Management

Don't forget that the local professionals are the one’s that are working the hardest and making the company the money.

I have been working at Five Star Senior Living full-time

    Pros

I enjoy the residents. I get a long with my department. PTO is good

    Cons

Employees aren’t payed very well. Can’t keep staff because of the pay. Also hard to hire because of the pay. Made to feel like you aren’t good enough. Still have to fill out paperwork for PTO. Even though they have an APP for that. They have paperwork for everything. Still stuck in the 90’s. If you want to learn anything you have to do it on your own.

    Advice to Management

Appreciate your staff. Take care of them, they will take care of you.

I worked at Five Star Senior Living full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

You will receive a pay check.

    Cons

I have been working in this industry for over thirty years. This company is by far, the worst I've ever seen. Unqualified, inept DEPARTMENT HEADS. "Leaders" are just there for the paycheck. Uneducated and uncaring, they are not able to manage. This attitude filters all the way down to the workers who eventually give up trying. Favoritism and harrassment is rampant. Every issue or complaint is swept under the rug in the name of "Corporate." Zero training and NO accountability for anything. Failure to achieve standards is totally acceptable on a daily basis. It's really been unbelievable to watch the management team CONSISTENTLY flounder for years, and apparently the corporate office has no clue and/or doesn't care.

    Advice to Management

Sta:rt over and actually vet and hire managers who are: a. have the key skills and are qualified to lead. b. professional and caring people.

I worked at Five Star Senior Living full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

None that I can think of after working there for 6 years

    Cons

Management was horrible at corporate. They don't care about the employees. Salary is very low compared to other companies. No encouragement or praise for hard work. I used to get reprimanded if I accidentally worked 15 min overtime. People just trying to step over each other to get ahead. No flexibility.

    Advice to Management

    Get new management

    Pros

The residents were great. Close to home. Pretty place.

    Cons

Place is filthy. More like 2 star. Health code violations. Drinking by staff. Roaches everywhere. . Racist environment. Asked to perform nursing duties kitchen duties and I was accounting person. Had to beg for insurance information . Resident threatened by person in charge Wage and hour violations. 1st paycheck delayed by a week wouldn't approve salary check was wrong refused to correct it. Different rules for pet employees. Constant chaos. No training. No breaks. Asked to work other jobs when others had overtime. Nothing in job description was followed or acknowledged. Person in charge referred to employees that quit as monkeys. Person in charge had no business training. weren't part of the racist talk during stand up meetings you were out.

    Advice to Management

Replace top person in charge Investigate resident files for accuracy
Perform audit. Show up on a weekend. Send someone in under cover in mgmt.

    Pros

The residents are awesome and you'll fall in love with them quickly

    Cons

They are always short handed so you very rarely get to go in and do just your job, The manager was always bringing her boyfriends in and they had some very questionable personality problems that were not the best for the safety of seniors
