I worked at Flagstaff Medical Center part-time

    Pros

Flexible hours, great stations, always plenty of overtime.

    Cons

Lots of frequent fliers and you wear all black so are often mistaken for cops and treated poorly by some patients. Management is okay.

I have been working at Flagstaff Medical Center full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Unit teamwork is strong but we don’t have a choice

    Cons

Management is poor and gets worse every year. No true listening of input from staff. Not competitive in paying experienced and specialized nurses- a highly trained ICU RN who can do multiple speciality trained jobs gets the same pay as a med surg RN who doesn’t even have a telemetry monitor on the unit.

    Advice to Management

pay for retention! Not for “attracting” new talent. Pay for specialties! Stop tooting your own horn in emails and then point out every one of our flaws. Stop adding to our responsibilities and treat nursing staff as they should be treated.

I worked at Flagstaff Medical Center full-time

    Pros

Providers cared and were skilled. Most co-workers were amazing.

    Cons

Insurance should be better. Management is most concerned about climbing the ladder vs. patients and employees.

I have been working at Flagstaff Medical Center full-time

    Pros

Facility is nice, pay is good

    Cons

Management is very cliquey and unprofessional involved in gossip and only promote those with like thinking and loyalty to the established culture behind the scenes. Very aware of personal lives of the employees and judgmental. Give you raises and then wash you out to hire cheaper new grads. Expensive place to live, crowded college town.

    Advice to Management

Get some fresh thinkers on the board and get some executives willing to stay longer than a few months that are willing to break up the old guard and operate on a healthy, professional level.

I worked at Flagstaff Medical Center full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

There are some really dedicated providers that are keeping the place afloat

    Cons

It's a monopoly. There is no one else in town and they know it. Poor pay, poor benefits, many employees will actually go out of town to get their own health care because it's cheaper. Check the CEO name- there's been 2 since the one listed on this website. You can't have long-term planning when admin at the top changes every 18 months. Management only cares about the bottom dollar, doesn't care about the "values"... and "mission" that is supposed to be apart of the organization. They prefer employees not to be retained so they can hire newer staff at lower pay. You will hear it's difficult to recruit to this area and organization- this is true for admin and management as well. They will try to squeeze every dollar they can out of you in hopes of a profit. This place keeps the sister hospital in Cottonwood afloat. Look up the Medicare salary of the organization because it's public info (supposed to be a non-profit despite a .com website). There are a bunch of GoB's (Good ol' Boys) at Verde Valley Medical Center who are old white men near retirement age who can't find a job or position anywhere else so they get paid in the top percentile for doing nothing other than being friends with another old white man in charge. Diversity? There is none- a hospital of this size with only 5-6 Asian providers, absolutely no Native American physicians despite being next to the largest reservation in the country and no Middle Eastern/Arab physicians on permanent staff. Look up a previous vice president who gave out contracts to his friend and cronies for doing absolutely nothing while 2 states away. Total incompetence from admin- hires outside consultant groups from across the country to tell them what to do

    Advice to Management

None because you're too self-indulged to open your eyes and realized what's really going on

I worked at Flagstaff Medical Center part-time

    Pros

Lots of overtime available and fairly good starting salary compared to other ambulance services. You're allowed to relax at the station if it's not busy and they're pretty nice.

    Cons

It seems like they're always understaffed and constantly need more people.
