I have been working at FleishmanHillard full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Lots of emphasis on building a culture
    Great management at GM level
    Strong momentum
Recently introduced attractive overtime and vacation policies

    Cons

    Lots of change
    Senior management heavy
    Long promotion/raise cycle
    Not enough middle management

    Advice to Management

Consider a shorter promotion/raise cycle for mid-junior level employees. Currently, there is one opportunity for promotions and raises a year. Missing a raise because of poor business performance at a group level, (a result of senior management) can put FH mid-junior level employees at a large disadvantage in comparison to PR pros at other agencies.

    I worked at FleishmanHillard full-time

    Pros

    - Get to work with big-name clients in both the private and public sector
    - No one is micro-managed
    - Nice office space, good location
    - Get to work with people all over the world

    Cons

    - Upper management treats junior level employees like administrative assistants
    - Middle level employees are completely overworked, and most of senior management is inept
    - Massive amounts of people being fired and quitting in the past 6 months
    - Senior leadership only cares about the Public Affairs practice and turns a blind eye to everyone else
    - Terrible company culture and no incentives for employees to do well or enjoy their jobs
    - Promotions and bonuses are completely mismanaged
    - Terrible inter-company communication

    Advice to Management

    - Do your own printing, pick up your own lunch, schedule your own meetings, save your own documents - it's insulting to be asked to do something that you could easily do yourself
    - Stop treating junior level staff like your personal assistants - it prevents them from growing professionally, and they will all leave

I have been working at FleishmanHillard full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Solid opportunity to learn and grow within the industry. In a smaller market like St. Louis, FH is definitely the best PR agency to work for. Talented leaders (also big egos) and good system in place for annual reviews.

    Cons

Some lack of fresh thinking, tends to revert to the same strategies & tactics rather than pitching out-of-the-box ideas. Top-heavy structure makes it hard to adapt to anything quickly (partially due to its holding company). The agency is struggling with its identity & high turnover.. especially at the junior & mid-level. Stiff, non-transparent corporate culture hurts morale.

    Advice to Management

Agency is in need of a refresh from the top down. Retention of top talent will always be an issue with a top-heavy organization that pays far below market value.
