    Pros

Input into your career and growth to take you where you want to go is impressive. The company invests heavily in L&D. You get to work with quite fantastic people every day and you get the challenge to grow and push yourself. It's a big company and the opportunities are big. You see people move to new roles and ones outside the traditional fits. The Vision & Values are great and really fit with me personally. I like being able to balance my life outside work and that getting the work done is more important than where you do that.

    Cons

If you are looking for a cruise'y 9-5 job this isn't for you. There are a lot of challenges and lots to do, but you can see the impact of your work.

    Advice to Management

Keep focused on the Vision and Values

I have been working at Fletcher Building full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

It's a big global business which does create opportunity to develop your career in a number of ways. I love the values of the company and the fact they really do want to make a positive contribution to the communities we are in. It's a very down to earth culture where you can be yourself.

    Cons

It's still a business in transition which creates loads of opportunity but you've got to be happy in environment of change and be pretty resilient. With so many different businesses it's hard to build a single culture and to communicate effectively across all.

    Advice to Management

The leadership group are generally excellent - they just need to maintain the pace and keep people on board.

great people development, great challenges. If you are looking to work in a complex diverse environment that is just bursting with opportunities, this is the place to be.

    Cons

change takes time and can be demoralising

    Advice to Management

    Empower and trust your people.
    Lead by example.
    Make change stick.

I worked at Fletcher Building full-time

    Pros

It has a very easy going and relaxed office environment. You are allowed to do your job with minimal supervision. Staff are very friendly.

    Cons

Sometimes the upper management is to hands off in areas they shouldn't be, poor communication from upper management to staff, this is slowly changing however.

    Advice to Management

Talk to staff more regularly about where the business is going and how it is doing in the market. Remind staff about courses available through the company.

I have been working at Fletcher Building full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - lots of work to do if you like a busy and challenging environment
    - good people
    - the diversity and scale of the portfolio is massive
    - lots of opportunities to improve

    Cons

    - not as agile as a small business, very complex
    - the old mentality needs to go, embrace and drive change
    - will be good to see more recognition of staff that are working hard
    - politics

    Advice to Management

A lot of good people in this business but management has not been consistent in recognising these people. You need to wake up and start recognising them. I've seen some terrible decisions over the last 12 months in promoting the wrong people.

I have been working at Fletcher Building full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The new leadership team has real commitment, our new GM is a good man who has brought a clear vision, drive, open inclusive environment, employee and customer focus and positive change is happening.

    Cons

At Fletcher building we have clear silos. People are good in both sides of the fence, though the fence needs to be removed to get more things done, the good intent is there, alignment and one team mentality will help

    Advice to Management

Corporate, executives and leadership team need to increase support to shared services, remove silos to create common practices.
Keep promoting the values we have through examples everyday, we have good people in shared services, give them more recognition.

    Pros

Largest construction company in New Zealand provides access to some of the most interesting projects around. The Fletcher empire has everything you might need here in construction. Because of its size, its a great place to exist as an Engineer if you are average in abilities and ambition. Promotion will come with time served.

There are also some great people to work with and good managers. It can just be hit and miss.

    Cons

Being the largest construction company in New Zealand and encumbant firm. The company's rhetoric and literature is of ingenuity, adaptability and continual progress. The reality is often quite different - and is entrenched all the way up to senior management. Being the largest firm with access to resources no other firm in New Zealand has, Fletcher Building relies on its size. In any other larger and more developed country it would not survive as it currently does or be the firm of choice.

    Advice to Management

With the huge range of skills and abilities that Fletcher has in it's people, particularly Engineers and skilled tradesmen - ingenuity and performance should be better valued. New Zealand and Fletcher's wonder why so many are crossing the ditch. A lot of the answer lies at home.

    Pros

Great opportunities in terms of education and support, not only for staff but their dependents as well.

    Cons

Divisions are quite separate - not much room for work between them, quite inefficient
