I worked at Flextronics full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Love the people that I worked with day to day.
Lots of community involvement projects where employees are encouraged to participate

    Cons

Workload too heavy and as staff is downsized workload increases
Upper Management more invested in "the good ole boys club" than in selecting the best person for the job
Constantly in a downsizing mode and sending jobs offshore where it is cheaper

    Advice to Management

Look at the future. It is not all about saving a dime today. It may cost you millions in the future. Cheaper is not always better

    Pros

Very Friendly and compassionate and they determined to help you succeed. A company that puts their employees first.

    Cons

I really cannot think of any cons. The only thing that can come to mind is the company is so big it's hard to communicate with a higher up.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing a great job on training employees and helping them move up the chain. Awesome work to all of you!

I worked at Flextronics (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Some wonderful people to work with. Very diverse group of people.

    Cons

Constant layoffs keep you worried. Projects come in and once a process has been setup, the project moves overseas while the vast majority of employees are let go. The industry is very up and down.

    Advice to Management

Know your people and stop looking at them in terms of numbers.

    Pros

Under a great umbrella, fairly new location. Has different branches all over the world. Has a great future if decisions are made sooner than later.

    Cons

No one likes to take responsibility for actions, would much rather point fingers. Lack of team effort, lots of politics. There is a lot to improve upon.

    Advice to Management

Get out of the office and find out what the companies problems. It should not take months to find solutions to problems.

    Pros

I loved the working environment at Flex. The community was encouraging and supportive, especially towards women. It's a great place to be to advance your career within the project management area; in general there are loads of opportunities at Flex, since they handle schematics and test models from some of the biggest tech giants, as well as various other really cool startup tech companies.

    Cons

The biggest drawback to me was that there wasn't really a research and development department in the US that I was aware of, in spite of the fact that it is a contract manufacturing company. The closest thing was probably Multek, or interconnect technology center, which was pretty small in comparison to how large of a corporation Flex is. There is an R&D facility located in Taiwan.

Another thing that I had to consider was that Flex's corporate finance follows more of the manufacturing model. So, the pay scale is affected accordingly for its employees. (min costs for production with max output)

    Advice to Management

Hire a CTO who is experienced in processing units.

Very mature systems and lots of multifunctional support.

    Cons

If not tenured you can be laidoff quickly when business shifts occur.

    Advice to Management

Don't react to short term indices so quickly. It only hurts the employees and can ruin careers.
