I worked at Flextronics full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

great high volume manufacturing company with lots of vertical integration. multi faceted with many BU and differentiated markets to balance the portfolio. good diversification. smart leadership

    Cons

work life balance is not considered. political. lots of passing the buck, segment ops ownership Vs global ops ownership. low volume manufacturing know how is challenged, lots of waste, good at high volume, low and complex is challenged. wastes a lot of money on experiments. Horrible costing and ABC accounting. Too much allocation.

    Advice to Management

consolidate operations based on business requirements or product attributes, too much of mixing of manufacturing methodologies. The staff understands continuous flow high volume, struggles with high mix. lot of learning pains.

I have been working at Flextronics full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

I have been able to travel around the world and spend months in exotic locations I would never have otherwise visited. There's a high mix of customers each with their own benefits and challenges. Rarely are two days ever the same.

    Cons

The compensation is awful. I didn't realize just how bad it was until I started looking outside. We'll get a 2% raise in the summer and we're told we're lucky to get it. They then jack up our insurance premiums, erasing the raise and then some.

The mantra is do more more more with less less less to the point we're paralyzed. Nothing gets done because we don't have enough people to do it.

    Advice to Management

Yelling at your supervisors and engineers for not getting work done isn't a solution. We're all working as hard as we can. Consider hiring more people and paying your key contributors what they're worth. We're in a downward spiral where people leave, you work us harder, threaten us with our jobs, which just causes more people to leave.

I worked at Flextronics full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The pay is decent, the work is interesting, and the managers are generally capable. Most people take what they do seriously.

    Cons

Depending on the job, you may have to travel a lot. There is politicking in higher management that you just have to live with. The work areas get shuffled and rearranged pretty regularly.

    Advice to Management

Create an internal audit team to go around and audit each manufacturing site, create a short list of key process indicators, then periodically assess each site on these common KPIs.

    Pros

Good, hard working people who care.
    Salary are competitive.
Some middle management are transparent and try hard to share information down to employees.

    Cons

Middle and upper management in IT is stagnant. Very hard to be the new person on the team and make a difference unless you conform.

    Lots of long hours.

    Advice to Management
