I worked at Flextronics as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

-Good to learn tech manufacturing basics.
    -Fast paced environment
    -Multi-Cultural staff
-Decent pay for people entering industry from the bottom.
-Easy to advance from mind numbing positions to more advanced "hands on" positions. (Don't expect your pay rate to change.)

    Cons

-CONSTANT shift extensions (often unknown until 3-4 hours before end of shift).
-Unknowledgable Managment. (My floor supervisor asked me how to spell the word "pump")
-Overtime nearly every week. (Avg week for me was 54-70 hours).
-HR is as unreliable as floor Managers.
    -Small room/chances for pay raise.

    Advice to Management

Take advise from your dedicated employees, and CONSIDER what they are saying! Allow employees to have SOME SORT of personal life.

I worked at Flextronics (More than a year)

    Pros

Interesting projects to work on. Projects have variety and potential is there to work on important devices.

    Good benefits package.

    Cons

Some managers can be nasty. Think they can assign as much work as they want. Not interested in your health/safety/life.

Planning for projects is poor. Willing to underbid and make employees work overtime to makeup for the shortcomings of the bid process.

    Advice to Management

Evaluate what you want the culture to be. Not everyone works in manufacturing.
    Don't think people are inter-changeable.

    Pros

Some of the best coworkers I have ever worked with.

    Cons

Management and mfg support personal heavy. It seem there are more people planning and supervision than there are employees on mfg floor.

    Advice to Management

Less meeting. The answer is talk to the people who are not afraid to give you an honest opinion.

I worked at Flextronics full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

You get to fix Apple laptops and IBM laptops etc. Great for building your repair skills whether you're an experienced repair tech or not.

    Cons

Very stressful numbers based environment. The requirement is to fix a unit every 45 mins. This includes post repair testing at your desk. You either run Apple Toolkit for the Macbooks or PC Doctor for Windows based laptops. These tests take a good 10 to 15 mins to run. So realistically you only have 30 mins per unit. This includes doing an inventory of the unit, taking notes of condition etc...so actual repair time is less than that. If you don't meet these numbers you get written up and eventually fired. Doesn't matter how good you fix your units. They care about numbers. If you have any experience with being in repair depots, you know that you have good days and bad days. Your good days consist of things going as planned. Your bad days consist of getting bad parts. Having multiple failures show up after the original repair etc. Seems like you have more things working against you than for you. It wouldn't be so bad if the pay was there but in my area they paid the lowest amount out of all the repair depots. $11 a hour.

    Advice to Management

Act like you actually care about your workers. When the A/C was broken for the summer your main concern was still numbers. Not the health of your workers. Working in a 90 plus degree warehouse under stress is bad. Proven by the people we had pass out

I worked at Flextronics as an intern

    Pros

everyone is friendly and all. very accepting to the newcomer. i met some interesting people and engaged on their past experiences in school and the workforce

    Cons

the work is far too basic for an engineer intern, no challenges or what not and consists mostly of menial work that anyone without engineering degree can do

I worked at Flextronics (More than a year)

    Pros

Good working conditions. Good benefits Great place to learn. Fast paced enviornment

    Cons

Top heavy with mangers with little or no skill sets to effectively manage their teams. "Good ole boy" culture still prevails. Some resistance to innovative approach to problem solving\alternative solutions. Do not get too comfortable with your job, layoffs come in waves. Job performance has little to do with who gets laid off. Do not become a squeaky wheel, you will be replaced.

    Advice to Management

Trim the fat at the middle. To much "me too" by employees that results in excessive and wasteful spending. GHD needs improvement.

    Pros

Hands on with current mobile communications technology with major mobile carrier. Offered medical, vision, dental and 401k benefits.

    Cons

Standing for eight to ten hours a day. Lack of leadership from management no opportunity for advancement.

    Advice to Management

Provide more leadership and engagement with your employees. Need to provide more advancement opportunities for individuals who are qualified. Don't promote the individual who who would take less for the position.

I worked at Flextronics as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

It teaches how to repair Apple laptops and how to work as a team. It gave me some good entry level experience.

    Cons

Very poor training which does not teach you well how to do the job and you have to learn on your own. Supervisors change areas every 2 or 3 months and start times change as well. Bad refurbished parts are delivered a lot and cause you to get way behind yet you're still expected to flow with their expectations. Sometimes people are very slow bringing parts out. Mandatory overtime is required during peak months a lot, pretty much always on Mondays and Tuesdays and some other times as well and everyone has to stay 12 hours and they won't work with you if you have other commitments, which is what led to my forced resignation. They do not care about their employees.

    Advice to Management

Needs new management that will balance this place better and make it more pleasant
