    Ok not great

    Pros

most people get every other Friday off but you have to "work" 9 hour shifts even if you're salaried. benefits and pay are overall slightly above average, nothing great. only really stand out thing is the calm and non-corporate environment at least at Pine Bend. decent room for career growth with the whole of Koch. oil business is always stable.

    Cons

having people come in is just archaic and not with the times, remote work not advertised but needs to be requested. management lives in their own world. since you ask about diversity, it is very white here. they tout business ethics and what they call MBM endlessly to the point it's robotic and means nothing for the common man. supposedly there are 2 reviews a year but it only really happens once and don't expect a raise regardless of your efforts. oil is making more money than ever but you won't see any.

Good company to start a career at, but don't stay forever

    Pros

Great training- spent more time on training/upskilling employees of anywhere i've worked High responsibility, impactful work- large, multimillion dollar decisions day 1 Smart, honest people (90%)- great coworkers, union and non-union. most glad to share knowledge and great people Great business philosophy- MBM and decision making framework is useful, makes you a better decision maker and a better business writer- most decisions are made or at least aided by written technical documents vs powerpoints Competitive base pay and benefits

    Cons

High stress at times, lean organization with more tasks than time to the extreme Turnarounds- very stressful, time consuming, physical- bonus structure for turnarounds is significantly lower than industry average Political- like any big organization, things get more political the higher up you go and MBM is used to justify decisions instead of make them, job can get stale after a few years it can be hard to get promoted or move to different roles Shrinking industry- can only remain competitive through brutal cost cutting (which includes salary and personnel) Performance reviews are subjective - people are often let go or fired randomly, due more to working for the wrong manager vs individual performance Bonus structure, which is talked up a lot, never seems to materialize and is the lowest overall of any company i've worked for

Good place to start a career

Oct 24, 2021 - Business Systems Analyst in Wichita, KS

    Pros

Excellent internship program and lots of entry level positions, competitive pay for locale. Good benefits as well. Other employees were professional and good to work with. Fairly laid back and low stress work atmosphere, overtime or more than 40+ hr weeks were very rare. Parent company is stable so jobs were largely insulated from economic booms and busts. Tech stack was surprisingly modern, although there were still some legacy systems. Lots of job opportunities exist internal to the company with a culture that expects you to move roles frequently and has a high tolerance for employees trying new things.

    Cons

FHR's big about culture and philosophy, which were overall pretty good, but translated to lots of talking about how we work versus actually working. Lots of office politics that were mostly non-toxic and also avoidable if you wanted, but your performance was rated heavily on your culture fit, so keeping up appearances, being likable to the right people and saying the right buzz words in meetings is a big part of doing well here. Covid response was botched. We were called back into the office early in the pandemic for no discernable reason and with lax rules. Whole sections of the floor would go missing due to community spread, but they'd wouldn't always tell you if you were exposed. Still a strict no remote workers policy, although temporarily working from home with good reason is somewhat normalized now. The politics of Kochpac do leak into the workplace via staff meetings and other events, so if you don't align politically with the Koch brothers you may experience cognitive dissonance. Wichita is an easy place to live but a hard place to build a life. Unless you grew up or have ties to the area, I wouldn't recommend moving.
