I worked at Floor and Decor full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Well its a job! You get paid decent, more then minimum wage. Not bad commute if your in the chicago suberb areas stores. They are flexible with hours and are willing and good at working around your shedule.

    Cons

Now this goes for ALL the stores! They will literally work the hardest working emplyees more instead of hiring more people for each department. Expect alot of heavy lifting, calls for viduals, do returns and load outs all while getting pulled to assist in other departments all because nobody's working it. Things then get chaotic being that theres only 3 to 4 people running the store, it can get insane and thats not right at all. It's then will you feel underpaid., customers are not helped and tou cant finish anything. They cant seem to hire over months period of time to replace others that left. Like mentioned in other comments there can be a huge lack of communication and leaves thing very disorganized and confusing. Makes many promises to workers with no follow-up at all, if you dont mention it then it wont be brought up at all. Revolving door of people coming and leaving is very high. Some managers tend to be bad at scheduling at times, and can definitely be favoritism for some employees. Like come on its odvious lol, workers see and notice alot more then managers think. The stores use to be better with hiring, management and having order but drastically changed since last year i dont know why, but unfortunately it has.

    Advice to Management

Hire more people that would be a great fit for the job position, stop over working those that are there. Not saying its bad to assist other departments here and there but when its over done thats a problem. They were hired in a their department for a reason. Its not fair for workers to constantly run different departments because higher up cant get things right. You cant afford to be cheap and not hire and expect workers to jump departments and be all over the place. I can speak for many when i say it happens and alot. Its unprofessional as hell and definitely needs improvement. No place should be run like that at all, but should be run with order. Listen to your employees and work on communication better and accurate information you give to them. People wont take much of it and will eventually leave. Stop saying hiring for full-time when its really for part time, stop promising hours and not give them Wake up!! when a place has high turnover that high you should stop and see something is not working and work on building the company. There is no reason a place doesnt fill positions for over 3 months, just stop being cheap and pay workers period.

I worked at Floor and Decor part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Work/Life balance was great

    Cons

Very poor management (rude, dishonest, unprofessional, lazy)
Career opportunities are poor unless they know that you're going to be there forever

    Advice to Management

Actually work instead of relying on sales floor employees to do all the work for you. Treat employees like they're human & not slaves.

I have been working at Floor and Decor full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

There is a huge growth potential if you are willing to do your job and do it well. Career opportunities are huge.

    Cons

Still a retail environment. With the wrong management, the whole store can suffer. I have worked in a few different stores and being in the wrong store can have a negative impact on some employees.

    Advice to Management

Hold all stores accountable to the same standards. Training department could use some more help.

I have been working at Floor and Decor part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I've been working at Floor and Decor since Summer 2016 and it started off strong! Everyone in the store was friendly and wanted to do their best. You quickly get used to the pace and there's always someone to help.

    Cons

Management quickly became an issue. Scheduling at our location is awful. Sometimes there'll be no one in the department because of said schedules. Communication is a huge issue. Customers expect to be helped and rarely do we get an answer when we call for sales associates to come assist them.
Our Store Manager doesn't seem to care for the small things and no manager recognizes all the hard work that the employees put into the store.

    Advice to Management

Reward your employees with a "good job!" every now and then. It really helps. Try to communicate and have someone supervise the overall store schedule so we don't have gaps. Listen to your employees.

I worked at Floor and Decor full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Floor and Decor is a fast growing company which of course means opportunity for advancement in a short period of time.

    Cons

Under-developed internal controls. Management will sacrifice morale to hopefully help the bottom line. Human Resources is ineffective. Benefits are poor and pay is not competitive with many companies in the area.

    Advice to Management

Invest in training and human capital. Happy employees will cost the company less money in the long run.

I have been working at Floor and Decor part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The ability to move up fast is definitely here. Management is laid back and easy to work with, unless they've earmarked you as trouble. Being sales-oriented is a plus and selling is easy as your clientele is already pumped and in awe (overall). It's a niche market - only selling hard flooring and nothing else.

    Cons

There's a lot more behind-the-scenes politics going on than any other place I've worked. Although they hire at above minimum, the work is strenuous and hard and bonuses are few and far between. There is no commission. The current available work pool selection is unfortunately not very qualified for this type of career.

    Advice to Management

Be more selective in your hiring processes. Acknowledge the efforts of your employees more often (in a good way!) We work hard and need the recognition.
