    Pros

The new CIO is focused on internal development and innovation. He has done a lot of promotion from within the company.

    Cons

There are politics at the higher levels of management. You must be able to develop & maintain relationships with others in the organization.

    Advice to Management

Management should focus on the outcomes that individuals contribute, not their reputation or the feedback of the internal customers or business partners.

I worked at Florida Blue (More than a year)

    Pros

    1. Tons of hands-on training that really prepares you for your job. I learned so much about Medicare and health insurance in general through the first few weeks of training alone.

    2. Hard work DOES get recognized. Although my official title was "Service Advocate" I was able to take on new projects and work with many other departments due to the fact that management saw me as someone who always wanted to do more.

    3. Lots of upward mobility, especially for those willing to consistently network and build relationships with others.

    4. Great pay.

    Cons

There were only two negative things that I had experienced while working at Florida Blue as a Service Advocate.

    1. It is a call center so much of your time will be dedicated to sitting at your desk taking phone call after phone call for all, or at least a majority of the time. However, when it's slow you constantly need to reach out for work to do so you don't look like a slacker.

    2. Not very flexible with hours. I was a student the entire duration of my employment, over 2 years, and as time went on the company started taking away some of the flexibility due to budget cuts. This was the only reason I had to quit because I basically had to choose between working full-time or getting my degree when I wanted it.

    Advice to Management

I had two different direct supervisors during my employment and while both were great managers, one possessed a trait that I wished every manager would learn from. The ability to regularly keep in contact with those who work directly under you is how you develop a sense of leadership and teamwork. The first manager I had was always very approachable and would provide feedback as often as she could. This gave me guidance, awareness and the constant ambition to be a better employee in order to help myself, my team and the company.

My advice to management is to please always listen and provide feedback to your employees and I promise that those who possess a strong work ethic will take that extra attention and make something great.

I have been working at Florida Blue full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Relaxed work atmosphere
Cafeteria is fine but they charge 27 centers for plastic spoons lol
Certain managers are lazy but if they are their bosses favorites you can hang on..

    Cons

    Very political
    Nepotism
    Management plays favorites
Promotions are rare and you have to wait for your boss to eIther retire or die...
Management is not aware of the big picture
    Botched IT system implementations ...
    IT is horrible
Trying to be in every thing -Medicare ACA hospital business etc etc - you can't be the best in everything!!!

Bosses preach you to go move around but they themselves stick in same department and position for decades!!

    Advice to Management

Try to understand what's really happening at a day to day level

There is an effort to show that lot of stuff is happening but in reality there is nothing happening...

If you are demoting people from director to senior manager please reduce their salaries too. It's like getting the same pay for reduced work load..

I worked at Florida Blue full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

I love the facilities, benefits and professionalism.

    Cons

Some coworkers wear to much perfume despite company policy.

    Advice to Management

Make sure all call center workers get at least an hour each day off the phones no matter what the call volume is. If the customers are calling because their written isn't complete, it goes to say if the written is completed and the member called it will reduce the call volume.
