    Neutral Outlook

I worked at Florida Department of Economic Opportunity (Less than a year)

    Pros

This was a very good internship experience. Employees were very laid back and helpful. Hours were flexible as long as you fulfilled your weekly required hours.

    Cons

Some employees would talk badly about others in front of me (the intern). This is not a positive experience for an intern to witness.

    Advice to Management

The orientation was a good experience for me. I was introduced to the other employees as well as the security in the building and other department employees.

    Cons

The pay is low compared to other service / case managers within the workforce system.

    Advice to Management

    Lead, not manage your personnel

    Negative Outlook

    Pros

Teamwork and camaraderie; everyone you work with in the same position knows exactly how you feel
    Weekends off
    It pays money
Sometimes you get to have potlucks
You might actually get to make a positive difference for claimants

    Cons

Scant advancement opportunities and pay raises do not ever happen
Nepotism, nepotism, nepotism-- do not expect advancement unless you are related to someone higher up
Indecisiveness -- processes on unemployment claims and workplace policies change so frequently
Processes seem to keep getting more elaborate rather than being simplified
The operating system known as Connect seems to mangle claims, and once a part of it has been fixed another part of it seems to break.
Getting screamed at by irate claimants because someone in another department cannot seem to fetch a fax-- a fax which was sent two weeks ago seems to have immaterialized (this is common).
People are always either quitting or getting laid-off even though we're horrendously understaffed

    Advice to Management

Get a clue! Oh, and your certificates of appreciation which are created from some generic microsoft template are lame. Give us some real incentives, like raises and performance incentives. Quit cutting the pay and benefits of employees to benefit the few higher ups who don't add any real value, but instead just change the processes around and use the buzzword "efficiency" to justify their raise.

    Pros

Great people, excellent bosses, lots of opportunities to learn and grow.

    Cons

Low salary for having a Masters, probably goes with the territory and seems to be the norm for working in Tallahassee
