    Negative Outlook

I have been working at Florida Department of Health full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

This job has great benefits, but the pay is average. I enjoy my position working with HIV/AIDS clientele and fir the most part my coworkers

    Cons

The higher up management does not seem to
care about the employees or their future. Although you work them you are not given first preferences for positions inside the agency. Also you never get raised unless it is governed by the state. Job performance does not seem to count fir anything.

    Advice to Management

Pay attention to your employees and thier needs. Listen to them more and put them first.

I worked at Florida Department of Health full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Flexibility, environment depends on the division

    Cons

Worked there 7 years and never got a raise, the workers were vilified as lardbricks by the governor, no room for advancement

    Advice to Management

Even if you can’t give raises, give flexibility and support to the rank and file. Institute a merit system, not one based on who you’re related to or who you know

    Pros

Great benefits and opportunities to grow in public health if you are interested in that field.

    Cons

Lacks opportunities for financial growth, if the salary were better I think more people would consider long term employment

    Cons

I have been working at Florida Department of Health full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Many people are passionate about their programs and serving the community.

    Cons

State policies make it very difficult to really serve the community. Policies also make it very difficult to develop professionally. Local leadership is out of touch and not serious about changing for the better.

    Advice to Management

Provide more external community events. Senior leaders should meet with programs and departments (not just managers and supervisors) on a quarterly schedule to try to get a sense of what is really happening at the program level. Answer the phones. Check people in. Spend regular, unannounced time with programs, clinics, departments. Come off the 7th floor.
