I worked at Florida Department of Health full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Working with clients is very rewarding.

    Cons

Low pay, no raises unless you are the Administrator, and racist senior leadership. Senior Management is not disciplined for poor work ethics, low team moral, or creating a hostile work environment. The Administrator, who received the only raise, got an extra $10K this fiscal year, after staff stated their dissatisfaction with the stagnant wages. His response via email to everyone: “If you don’t like it, leave. Other county’s pay less.” Overall, don’t work here unless you are at the end of your career/ are willing to listen to passive aggressive comments on a daily basis.

    Advice to Management

Fire the Administrator, hire a more diverse senior leadership team, and compensate employees for their hard work.

I worked at Florida Department of Health full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good programs that help the Community. Some People are genuinely nice, caring, and helpful.

    Cons

If you stay here long enough, you will see some things that are obvious. The Management in my Department was very dysfunctional, did not effectively lead to make a noticeable difference. Employee development given low priority and more effort given towards end result of programs (numbers). Lack of leadership, vision, and low employee morale did not add up to a great working environment. Management often not questioned because people are scared for their jobs. In order for people to stay long term they often times accept this business as usual.

    Advice to Management

Be open to constructive criticism to make your Department run better . Be willing to do the work which involves compromise and sacrifice, and don’t let the status quo remain.

    Pros

Good Benefits, set schedules, good reputation

    Cons

No overtime allowed. Old employees don't accept new employees. Drama. Competitive for no reason. There are no raises nor better opportunities within company.
