I have been working at Florida Department of Health full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good health insurance for families. Paid holidays.

    Cons

Pay is low and workload is extreme because of severe under-staffing and frequent turnover. By the time employees are trained, they often leave. Weird way of celebrating senior leadership at biannual employee events. Senior leadership takes generous liberties, like coming and going as they please. They are driving department cars for commuting and personal business, even though it is prohibited by policy, justifying it with "disaster preparedness". Retirement benefits were systematically gutted since 2012. It takes now 7 years to get vested in the retirement system. Unequal treatment of employees by leadership. It's old boys (or girls) network against newbies. Unless you need a temporary job badly, move on. They will burn you out and eat your soul.

    Advice to Management

Try treating employees equally and don't take liberties for yourself for which normal employees would get fired. Think about properly staffing departments, not just about saving money to look good.

    Pros

The FDOH allowed a platform for all employees to give their opinion and advice. They also were very active in promoting employees into higher positions. That was a big plus.

    Cons

The pay was not always ideal and often for same position was lower than other nearby organizations.
