I have been working at Florida Hospital part-time

    Pros

They can be very flexible and you learn so much more than your actual job. Being athat a long term acute care I get a great look at nursing and respiratory all whIle doing my job.

    Cons

I can't think of any cons because it's a great company to work for. I've never had any issues

    Advice to Management

Management does a great job listening to what the employees have to say. They are also usually very quick and responsive to new ideas.

I have been working at Florida Hospital (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Large teaching hospital looks good on resume, lots of career opportunities

    Cons

Management cuts every possible corner to save a buck, jeopardizing patient safety and leading to unsafe working conditions. I've witness several instances of poor patient care, and injuries to patients and staff merely due to understaffing. Nurses are stretched too thin. The high burnout and turnover rate is a glaring indicator of the changes needed in staffing this hospital. Management simply does not seem to care. These issues are addressed repeatedly, yet nothing is ever done.

    Advice to Management

Provide your staff with the resources and assistive personnel necessary to provide safe, efficient patient care. Cutting corners only leads to staff burnout, poor patient satisfaction, increased falls etc. Be wiser.

I have been working at Florida Hospital full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great co-workers, Christian based, decent benefits

    Cons

PDO are difficult to get due to staffing, ratios are unsafe, med-tele getting 6 patients to 1 nurse frequently, other units in critical care step down areas assigned 5 patients to 1 nurse. Our newer nurses express regret once they get on unit and see unrealistic amount of work expected but are locked in for 2 yr contract, many are planning on leaving already. Most of our veteran nurses plan on leaving soon due to burn out from understaffing. Focus is primarily on HCAPS scores not patient safety or nurse ability to do a good job. Management pushes more and more paperwork to improve HCAPS which just takes time away from important patient care. From a staff member standpoint it appears management is so far removed from the actual job and duties that they have no idea the demands placed far exceed time available to get things done.

    Advice to Management

Shadow staff for a realistic job preview, understand all demands made for additional paperwork is not possible with all tasks given and interruptions from other staff, families, and other demands. Improving ratios will improve scores, on a good day we have 8-10 min an hour with each patient. It's just not possible to fit more in.
