    Pros

Good working environment. Many students are international. This is a nice place.

    Cons

Research assistants' salary should be increased because the house rent in this area, Miami-Dade, is increasing per month.

I have been working at Florida International University part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

You are given flexible scheduling based on your classes and to some extent other personal engagements
Sometimes you will have enough time on your hands to study your coursework
You get to work with your peers and build your teamwork skills

    Cons

You probably won't receive any raises so whatever your base pay may be, it will remain the same throughout your entire employment.

    Advice to Management

For the most part, keep doing what you're doing. A little more transparency never hurts either.

I worked at Florida International University full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good growing research/funding base and collegial faculty.

    Cons

Every 2 years, the School of Education purges people from its ranks. One year it was computer and technical support, another year was all assistant professors going up for tenure, another year it was those close to retirement that were booted out before they hit retirement age, and more recently, they booted out instructors. Additionally, tenured professors are afraid to speak out against main college administrators which eventually led to the College of Education being transferred to Arts and Sciences and demoted to a School of Education. The new model purports to create more funding opportunities by allowing faculty from different disciplines to submit joint proposals, but this is just a lot of show with little to no substance, especially, since the old College of Education was bringing in a moderate to high amount of research funding.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of all deans, assistant deans, graduate deans, etc., within the School of Education and hire outside people.

    Pros

You can work with people from all around the world, if you are a student you can work and study in the same place, you can reach hundreds of thousands of users with your projects, and you get to work with very creative and passionate professors.

    Cons

Bureaucracy. Not all teams are progressive.

    Advice to Management

There are too many layers in the org chart of this university.
