I worked at Florida Medical Center full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Pay, room for growing, the experience received is unmatchable to anywhere else I've been atleast. I mean it's one thing going to school and learning but it's another ON THE JOB. Here, you're ON THE JOB HANDS ON!

    Cons

Crazy hours definitely! Everything else is nothing to complain about... But if you have a family suggest another job! Just a thought.

    Advice to Management

    "Constantly understaffed. Condescending management."

    Star Star Star Star Star
    Current Employee - Anonymous Employee
    Current Employee - Anonymous Employee

    Pros

Good pay and up to date equipment

    Cons

Constantly understaffed. When you voice a safety or under staff concern you are told "its that way on every floor", high acuity, high nurse to patient ratio. Charge nurses have 6-7 patients and have no time to help other nurses. New employees are expected to work every weekend . Travel nurses will not even come back for more than one term.

    Advice to Management

Stick to what you say in your new employee orientation. Stick no Zero tolerance on all the things you preach about. Walk around and see what is going on on the floors. Work more on employee concerns regarding safety and patient satisfaction. You will never have good patient satisfaction if your nursing staff is constantly overworked, underappreciated, and are voiceless on what happens to them on the floor.

I worked at Florida Medical Center full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

On most of the units, staff is very friendly. FMC is like NY; if you can make it there, you'll make it ANYWHERE!

    Cons

Constantly understaffed. High acquity patients, with nurse patient ratios on floors 7:1, sometimes 8:1. The higher ups turn staff against staff. No regard for patient and or nurse safety. You work your butt off during your shift, don't have opportunities to take breaks, YET management wants to know why your still there post change. Profound lack of compassion by higher ups. They only care about how things look "on paper!"

    Advice to Management

Work a month on the floor under the condions you force your staff to work. I guarantee, you would all quit or change your perspective.
