I worked at Florida Power & Light as an intern

    Pros

    Awesome work life balance
    Great training programs
Take interest in the growth of their employees
    Incredible opportunities

    Cons

Trouble moving between divisions for internships
Can get lost in the bureaucracy

    Advice to Management

As an intern, coming back the next summer for another internship in a different division was hard to do. I had great recommendations, but ended up having a hard time getting in touch with my hr rep/didn't feel like my growth was important the way it had been when I was physically on the campus. Ended up taking an internship somewhere else.

I worked at Florida Power & Light full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great campus, cafeteria, medical and people.

    Cons

Layers upon layers upon layers of overlapping titles. Departments doing duplicate work. Everyone working in silo's. Dysfunctional to the tenth degree. Basically overstaffed with folks who do not want to do there job. Antiquated process, low talent level and it starts at the top. Heads in marketing have been working in there roles for decades. No respect for peoples time. Boss never keeps to his meeting and is always last minute.

I worked at Florida Power & Light as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

Invests in their people and various internal training and excellence programs. Invests in new technology. Has great Head Office location!

    Cons

Can be bureaucratic as a large company with processes not always clear. However, I found things do eventually get done and they are always striving to improve with large Lead/Six sigma training program in house.

    Advice to Management

Keep investing in your people and new technology. Contribute to organizations that support fighting climate change.

    Pros

Great culture there - ongoing education and opportunities for growth

    Cons

They hire primarily from within - which is great once you get in. Huge focus on everyone having a degree. This is frustrating if you have a great work history and references, but have not yet completed your degree. They also strive to get every last hour out of you.

I have been working at Florida Power & Light full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    The office is nice looking.

    Cons

The company is dangerously understaffed. A normal work week here is 55 hours. A single person is expected to do 2 or 3 jobs. The parent company has a harebrained scheme called Project Momentums where they cut costs by $25 million every couple of years which means layoffs. We've already been through 3 Project Momentums and we have been informed that there is going to be a 4th and 5th. Meanwhile the CEO and other top executives give themselves huge pay raises and are selling their stock like no tomorrow for millions of dollars. No wonder people are leaving this company.

    Advice to Management

People are the competitive advantage of great companies and I have no doubt that you will run this company to the ground.

    Pros

solid pay and benefits. Nice corporate offices in Juno beach florida with gym overlooking duck pond.

    Cons

Toxic GE like culture full of arrogant ego maniacal jerks. Inefficient and corrupt to the core. The PUC needs to take a hard look at this company because the rate payers are getting scammed.
