    Pros

Opportunities can be sought out and achieved with the proper support of your immediate management. Record achievements through year for 6months reviews.

    Cons

Must get management support and approval for your efforts or you will judged accordingly should failure occur. Do not step out of their process and procedure even to make more efficient or easier. Always seek approval prior to initiate plan.

    Advice to Management

Do not limit the creativity or ideas of staff.

I worked at Florida Power & Light as an intern

    Pros

    Awesome work life balance
    Great training programs
Take interest in the growth of their employees
    Incredible opportunities

    Cons

Trouble moving between divisions for internships
Can get lost in the bureaucracy

    Advice to Management

As an intern, coming back the next summer for another internship in a different division was hard to do. I had great recommendations, but ended up having a hard time getting in touch with my hr rep/didn't feel like my growth was important the way it had been when I was physically on the campus. Ended up taking an internship somewhere else.

    Pros

Good insurance benefits & pay very good.

    Cons

Managers need to be more observant of who they are supervising. If you are a worker you get all the work while others have nothing to do. All with the blessing of Supervision. Don't say anything or you are a troublemaker.

    Advice to Management

Too many Managers doing nothing. Only watch people who work. Selective observance in the office of employees.

    Pros

Great campus, cafeteria, medical and people.

    Cons

Layers upon layers upon layers of overlapping titles. Departments doing duplicate work. Everyone working in silo's. Dysfunctional to the tenth degree. Basically overstaffed with folks who do not want to do there job. Antiquated process, low talent level and it starts at the top. Heads in marketing have been working in there roles for decades. No respect for peoples time. Boss never keeps to his meeting and is always last minute.

    Advice to Management

    Pros

Company cared about your advancement and put you on a track to succeed

    Cons

Management needed to back up employees more on different issues. Quick to fold and allow employees to be thrown under the bus

    Advice to Management

Try to listen to employees more and their concerns and back up your team

    Pros

Invests in their people and various internal training and excellence programs. Invests in new technology. Has great Head Office location!

    Cons

Can be bureaucratic as a large company with processes not always clear. However, I found things do eventually get done and they are always striving to improve with large Lead/Six sigma training program in house.

    Advice to Management

Keep investing in your people and new technology. Contribute to organizations that support fighting climate change.

    Pros

Good benefits, some quality lower level managers

    Cons

The job isn't very satisfying if you went to a more challenging engineering school. Work is tricky at best but does not get very challenging.

I worked at Florida Power & Light as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

The company is very dedicated to being the best it can be. They pride themselves in taking care of their employees and accepting out-of-the-box ideas for improving their quality of service. The internship program that FPL (and their parent company NextEra Energy) has is well put together, with a fun introduction day; the FPL president even took some time to have a Q&A session with just the interns one morning. We also got to go on tours of some of the command centers and generating sites which was cool

    Cons

One of the things that was annoying was housing. It's not that hard to find somewhere in the well-populated areas near West Palm Beach, but they only have a limited number of suggestions for places to stay that previous interns have recommended to them. I had to resort to craigslist which thankfully worked out okay.
Being a power company and all, the first week or so for me was dedicated to having all sorts of safety training and training relating to sticking with government regulations. Which wasn't very exciting.

    Advice to Management

I would suggest having more suggestions of where interns could stay. I would also encourage the intern managers to think in advance about the work their intern could do so that the intern always has some productive work to do.

    Pros

Great culture there - ongoing education and opportunities for growth

    Cons

They hire primarily from within - which is great once you get in. Huge focus on everyone having a degree. This is frustrating if you have a great work history and references, but have not yet completed your degree. They also strive to get every last hour out of you.
