I worked at Florida Power & Light as a contractor

    Pros

Great culture there - ongoing education and opportunities for growth

    Cons

They hire primarily from within - which is great once you get in. Huge focus on everyone having a degree. This is frustrating if you have a great work history and references, but have not yet completed your degree. They also strive to get every last hour out of you.

I worked at Florida Power & Light as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

The pros of working at Florida Power and Light (FPL) which is a NextEra Energy company in Miami, FL was the people I worked with. Great management at the individual service centers levels.

    Cons

Cost of living in Miami. Difficult to get what you deserve at a certain level if you're not cuban or have connections. Most cons are from upper management and not individual service centers.

    Advice to Management

My advice to management at Florida Power and Light (FPL) which is a NextEra Energy subsidary in Miami, FL is to have more realistic goals for projects.

I worked at Florida Power & Light (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Large corporate general counsel office located in Florida. Attorneys and staff were friendly. Great benefits inclusive of medical, dental, vision and 401(k). Multiple locations offered wellness centers and gyms. Yearly reviews were held enabling the setting of goals and career paths in various departments.

    Cons

Continual shifting of tiers of management; layoffs a way of life. Work/Life balance can be out of balance for certain departments.

Benefits: great 401k/company match plan, competitive vacation/time off, on-site cafeterias at discounted prices, on-site fitness center and wellness specialists
Opportunity for advancement and career development
Company invests in a wide variety training programs

    Cons

Employees have to work long hours in order to keep up with projects, requests and demands. There is no work - life balance anymore.
Lots of micromanagement across the board, it has become part of the culture and what you are expected to do a supervisor/manager

    Pros

Good job to have coming out of college. Learn a lot about how to work in a professional environment. Huge emphasis on safety. The company likes its employees to be well rounded so will get a lot of exposure to different things (engineering, project managing, budget managing, leadership). The people you work will be a big reason you stick around. Company also has pretty good benefits such as company match and pension.

    Cons

Work tends to take over life (poor work life balance). You will be expected to give free work hours if you a salary employee (50-60 hours a week). You are told that a bonus will be given within a % range of base salary which will be based on performance however it really is based on how company does as a whole and how much your boss likes you. Bonus typically tends to be on the lower end of that that % range. Work done between departments will frustrate you as departments will resort to the "that"s not my job" in order to get out of doing extra work on top of their busy work life.

    Advice to Management

Compensate your employees when extra work and effort is clearly shown. Figure out a way to reward employees that give up hours of their life to the company.
