I have been working at Flow Automotive Companies full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Flow does offer decent insurance but it is own by Flow. The retirement plans in place are pretty good and they do offer certain benefits that help. There are certain jobs in the company that are very beneficial. IE sales department, the finance department and anything to do with the selling of cars. The lack of attention is at the service side of the business. For an automotive technician flow is not the way to go.

    Cons

This is a place to clock in and sit around and wait for work. If you are an automotive technician you would know the flat rate system. Flow's theory is that it does not cost them to fill each shop up with as many as techs as possible. Because auto techs are paid on a Flat Rate/ Commission system. In turn we auto tech do not have a guarantee pay or base pay. Thus the work has to be distributed to each person but what happens is that the work usually slows down around mid day. Flow implements a variable pay system, so in term your base pay does not even matter. Certain jobs which is most jobs pays below your standard pay rate, as low as half your rate. Some jobs only have a set dollar amount you get paid for. The facility is very Ill equipped, the current shop VW of greensboro does not even have a working parts washer. Special tools are a even bigger issue, we are expected to purchase our own special tools to perform jobs. Even if the special tool is supposed to be provided by the dealership. Everything in service is neglected from the people and the equipment. Some equipment required for warranty purposes do not function as they should. With very little support form managers It is very difficult to turn time and have a good financial situation to pay my bills. Most employees are treated as just a number in the system. Intern it creates an environment that is a dog eat dog situation. Most individuals can not change things so it turns into a every man for themselves situation. There are multiple safety hazards and environmental hazards present in the building.

    Advice to Management

Management step up your game and pay attention to your starving technicians. Techs are the backbone of the dealership. Anybody knows that you can't sell a car that you can not fix. All techs want is to be able to pay their bills and provide for their families. It does not matter who you are, nobody can survive on a 20hr paycheck. Intern the results are good techs are leaving and the inexperience guys move in and try to struggle with the situation. Work on a good system and improve efficiency and for god sake hire service advisors that know the business and can handle the workload. Service advisors are the forefront of the service department and should be a working professional. Just a final note, Technicians are human beings with families and lives, not just disposable tools in your pocket. Another note is that the average tech spends approx $12,000 in hand tools just to perform the job as an entry level technician. Higher level techs are heavily invested in equipment and tools, $50,000 and up invested in tools to perform jobs for the company. It may not sound like a lot to Don flow but for starving technicians making 30k to 45k a year that is a major investment.

    Pros

Fellow employees was the only thing I enjoyed.

    Cons

Management had their own private agenda and at the auto plaza lacked up to date equipment.

    Advice to Management

Should put employees best interest before your own agenda and you will get much much more out of your employees.

    Pros

Schedule is favorable for those who have a life outside of the job. Expectations for your position are what is generally assumed to be expected.

    Cons

It is firmly "suggested" that you work when you are not in the office, and essentially required that you work on your days off. There is no balance of work/personal life. Compensation for eCommerce salespeople is less than you would make waiting tables. If you are an experienced salesperson from the salesfloor, do not come into internet sales expecting to make even 50% of what you made on the floor.

    Advice to Management

Modify the pay plans you pay your employees on to more accurately reflect the amount of work they put in. Reward performance based on a metric consistent with the employee, and not other employees.

    Pros

Freedom to do what you want when you're not working on a car. People overall are generally nice and can be helpful and can be fun to work with if you have a good attitude.

    Cons

Bad Healthcare benefits, slow wage increases, flat rate system so you don't get paid if there is no business in the shop. Some service writers are too afraid to approach a customer for up sales which means you don't make money. A lot of sitting around.

    Advice to Management

Pay the people who continue to stay here even when we are slow. Develop some kind of salary plus commission positions in the shop.
