I worked at Flowers Foods full-time

    Pros

Good money. Easy work. If you are willing to commit all of your time to them, there is room for advancement.

    Cons

Management shows no regards for employees. It feels like working at a sweat factory, long hours and no weekends off! Favoritism is high and since management is salary, they have no compassion for the many hours the hourly employees work.

    Advice to Management

Be more considerate and compassionate with you hourly employees. Quality product is just as great as how much you get out!

I worked at Flowers Foods full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

good pay, good benefits such as 401k, health, dental, life insurance, credit league. If u can take orders from supervisors who barely know the job this is for u.

    Cons

Long hours, really hot in summer. Ever changing schedule, very poor management. Old equipment where management expects you to work miracles.

    Advice to Management

Get better people who actually know what they are doing. Implement a better training program. Find a way to make the schedules work for the employees. Its not easy being a robot.

I worked at Flowers Foods full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Stable industry. Salary is competitive. Bonuses for salaried employees are within reach to goal setpoint.

    Cons

Very stressful and long working hours. Quality of life suffers greatly when working for this company. I've worked in multiple locations for Flowers and the difference from one location to the next can be day and night so be careful before accepting an offer. You will work holidays and weekends as well as 6 day weeks so be prepared to not have a family life. The hourly wages are low so the operations suffer due to employee commitment. Good luck......you'll need it.

    Pros

Consumers will always need bread, so show up, do your job, and you will always have a job.

    Cons

100 page job application. There will be days that seem like they will never end...Customers or management will call you after you have worked a 12 hour day and insist you service a customer, or they will charge you to have someone else do it.

    Advice to Management

Use the golden rule! Treat your workers like you would expect to be treated. They deserve a life outside of work.

I worked at Flowers Foods full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Never a dull week. Loved working with customers and helping grow our market. As long as you did your job properly, you were left alone to manage the business. Quality product. Most of the upper management was accessible and easy to get along with and talk to.

    Cons

2-2.5 hour radius we were required to cover and service. Incredibly difficult to meet corporate expectations. If an issue happened on the top of the territory, you prayed any others didn't fall below branch. Could spend all day on the road virtually doing very little. Upper management didn't care if issues happened 10 hours into the day and you were hours away from location with other work obligations already on your plate. They wanted it done and every other thing you were doing to prevent more from happening. Prepared for 12 hours everyday and saw many turn into 14+. Identity became the job in the end. 60-80 hrs was a normal week. High driver turnover. Constantly training.

    Advice to Management

It's a number game. It's understandable. However to understand what your branch managers are dealing with, take more time to understand THEIR market and THEIR logistical constraints by hitting the road instead of sitting at a computer looking over data. It only tells half the story and doesn't explain why certain problems may continually arise.
