I worked at Flowers Foods (More than 5 years)

    Pros

I got to set my own work schedule, and I worked with some great customers. I also made competitive wages.

    Cons

Having to keep up all aspects of having your own business. Things such as DOT Compliance, taxes, inventory, customers service, and maintenance of the truck.

    Advice to Management

Even though I was a distributor for a larger compony I would wish that they could find a way to balance the work load to were your life is not all work.

I worked at Flowers Foods full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Coworkers were extremely caring, friendly people
    felt like a family
    sales team work is interesting
    healthcare was fantastic

    Cons

they loose the competitive edge in many cases because they are so ingrained in systems and politics of people who have been there forever
pay was not competitive at my level
upper management has some control and secrecy issues - things that aren't of major importance are not explained to people lower on the chain nearly early enough, which leads to bad feelings among lower employees, low morale, and inefficient processes
the company tended to be reactionary rather than proactive, which can be a pain when trying to set up good processes

    Advice to Management

be more open to new ideas and new energy
not everything had to be secretive - once the lower levels found out, it seemed pointless that they had been kept in the dark for so long
you need to train people to backfill positions, so that when everyone in their 60's/70's retires, there are people to step into upper management
