I have been working at Flowserve full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Generous pension (really an additional savings plan) for those who will remain there for over 3 years, school benefit pays past IRS cap if you can get it approved and it's a job.

    Cons

Company is not doing well financially, has been unable to pay bonuses for two years and does not look like they will pay bonuses again next year. Company has expensive health insurance deductibles, monthly premiums and does not give you money towards your HSA. Company employs multiple older systems and processes and has very little interest in updating to more modern technology.

    Advice to Management

Although management turns over quickly (just in the last year they fired their CEO, CFO and lost their CIO) for the new management incoming understand that employee turnover will ultimately cost you in productivity and profit. Given the economy you now operate in your best employees are leaving your employ and deciding to set up careers elsewhere. As you've lost key employees and failed to replace them you've in turn created an environment of chaos and disillusionment. In addition you need to understand your company is quickly becoming irrelevant in the 21st economy and you need to invest into new business opportunities that extend outside of oil and gas. I understand the need to focus on the current quarter but you need to establish a long term vision and focus on executing that vision.

Huge reliance on in sourcing leads to confusion of project completion and communication.

    Advice to Management

None can be given as corporate dictates the ultimate goals of local managers.

I worked at Flowserve full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Recognizable company logo, icon, emblem. New CEO.

    Cons

Flowserve is in financial trouble. The financials speak for themselves. Top heavy with management that do not contribute to the work in the field. It will only get worse before better. Lack of support hinders the field operations and negatively changes end users perspective.

    Advice to Management

Go lean near the top. Support the field. Shorten the supply chain. Communicate a sound vision that leaves no guessing.

    Pros

Shop is climate controlled is the only pro!

    Cons

The management could care less about the employees. The Tulsa facility is ran horrible they want you to rush thru everything. Everything is based of efficiency. The times they give you to do is unreal. They use that to give a crappy raise if you even get one. Then they wonder why parts are wrong. First it's efficiency then quality then safety. They act like it's the other way around. Everyone tells on every one. Even the word Christmas offends people. Only way to move up is kiss butt. They also have no hr so management can do what they want! You may be on 40 hours all week then all of a sudden mandatory ot planning sucks! Worst place I have ever worked!

    Advice to Management

Treat your employees better! Quit rushing maybe there would be less ncmrs. Pay them the money they are worth. Not like people with no experience!

I worked at Flowserve (More than 3 years)

    Pros

This is a good place to learn about industrial equipment, pumps, valves, seals, and instrumentation. You get exposed to so much valuable information, and you are for the most part free to learn at your pace. Good pay, benefits, 401K, and pension plans.

    Cons

Management is horrible, they need to do an overhaul of most of the management staff. No communication whatsoever, too many people that don't know what they are doing. They need to do a better job of investing into their employees and better training. The products are highly attached to the oil and gas industry, so business is not very good right now. They are outsourcing a lot of products and a lot of engineering and manufacturing is now being done in cheaper labor countries. There have been a large number of layoffs in the past year and high turnover. Very negative culture.

    Advice to Management

Invest in your employees, treat them as actual people and not just a number. Keep jobs here and consider getting rid of the bad apples.

I worked at Flowserve (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Consistent work, great fellow employees, excellent medical benifits and retirement benifits.

    Cons

Management is looking for yes people, not quality people. HR is horrendous and doesn't know their place. Raises in recent years have been little to non existent. Only concern seems to be bottom lines.

    Advice to Management

Actually care about your employees instead of just acting like it. Get rid of management types who only care about yes men, and not real talent.
