I have been working at Flowserve full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Flowserve offers a comprehensive benefits package that makes up for lower salaries and middle of the road medical coverage with a retirement and a pension plan, though we will see how long the pension plan lasts. Since the company is highly compartmentalized, ambitious employees can easily exceed the learning curve and any expectations associated with their position. So, eventually an employee can work their way into a relaxed schedule, provided you meet your deadlines and deliverables without fail.

    Cons

The only reason there is not a one star rating is because of the employee retirement options included within the standard benefits package. Outside of that, there is a laundry list of cons. Namely, the highly compartmentalized structure of Flowserve lends itself to workplace complacency. It is easy for employees to slack on their job functions, since someone else will probably pick up the slack. The good employees who make up the difference eventually leave the company because their ambition is dashed due to the lack of acknowledgement. Infact, in most cases managers just expect good employees to do most of the work and are upset when the difference cannot be made up by the over tasked good employees. So, as the few good ones depart a majority pool of slackers reside. It is especially frustrating when said slackers get promotions when they lack the drive, skill set, and x-factor associated with winning orders, maintaining customer relationships, and managing production.
Rather than addressing this problem, senior management seemingly prefers to high from outside the company to fill higher roles. This further compounds the complacency within and drives the ambitious ones out of the company. The days of organic growth within Flowserve are long gone.

    Advice to Management

The complacent and under performing employees need to be invested in to try to meet the learning curve. If they still fail to meet the expectations of their job roles, then they should be excised from the company like a tumor. Quality hires should replace them and a means for organic advancement within the company should be made readily available.

    Pros

The control valve group is replete with trained, experienced people who are a pleasure to work with. The control valve product line covers a wide range of applications in various industries. The company is geared toward engineered solutions.

    Cons

Recent reorganization has led to fomenting disparate optimization of department goals, resulting in disfunctional process and inability meet on time requirements.

    Advice to Management

Get manufacturing and sales to work together toward the same goals (on time delivery, customer satisfaction), rather than worrying about their own, orthogonal efforts.

    Pros

Pay check every other week to pay the bills. The products are not challenging so your job will be easy but at the same time you will not learn anything if you are an experienced professional.

    Cons

Engineering, Purchasing, Service, Production control are being outsourced to India, manufacturing to China, No employee development, Pay is average. If you have an advanced degree, work will be boring and not challenging. Can't see a reason to work there unless you don't have a job or you don't care about your career development.
