I have been working at Flowserve full-time

    Pros

There is great hands on experience. It will take a little while to pick up but there are plenty of resources to draw information from. Great place to pick up experience and gives a good stepping stone into a plant or rotating equipment position.

    Cons

Pay is stagnant. Bonus is a 10% of base pay but only depends on how well the company is doing. Pay increases have to be fought for. They know it's a stepping stone job and expect you to find a better paying job with the experience you gain so there is no strong effort to keep employees. Sales seems to be the strong push after being an AE for 2-3 years. You have to leave your location to earn money.

    Advice to Management

Pay to keep your employees. Having experienced applications engineers is just as important as having good salesmen.

I worked at Flowserve full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great products and heritages, a lot of great people to work with, and decent pay and benefit. Good opportunity to move up if you are good and have a good boss.

    Cons

Corporate management doesn't understand the products we produced in Vernon, CA. They tried to manage this highly engineered product facility in the same fashion as other commodity based divisions, resulting in one of the most chaotic workplace. Band-aid everywhere, and direction changes from week to week from local upper management (just to satisfy corporate fever of the month).

    Advice to Management

Start treating Vernon as your flagship facility, not another low margin commodity division. You benefit from the high margin spare part and service business because of the highly engineered products Vernon produces.

    Pros

Always projects "forever learning" which is good. Benefits were good and company perks. Can learn a lot even though it's a lot of work involved.

    Cons

Work life balance. Senior Management need to care about the people and quality work instead of numbers. Relax have fun.

I have been working at Flowserve (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The people I work with and my team is excellent they are what keep me here. The experience gained is great but won't get you far at the company.

    Cons

    - No room for growth.
    - No raises last year.
    - No executive engagement or empowerment
    - No company strategy or vision (atleast not shared with anyone)
    - Very negative outlook

    Advice to Management

Come down from your high tower and say hi to the peons who help run the business for you. As an executive if you can't help drive engagement and motivate your employees in these "tough economic times" and not be able to share your vision or company strategy, YOU FAIL as an executive. Get out of the old way of thinking in regards to how an industrial company used to run in the 70-80's. That mindset hinders innovation and Flowserve just might be the next Kodak, RIM (Blackberry), Polaroid, Xerox.

    Pros

Young team and inviting environment for new hires, collaboration is encouraged, on-site responsibility allow for independent work, good exposure to equipment in the field and trouble shooting

    Cons

Lower pay than competitors, can be troublesome to work with other Flowserve divisions to accomplish something for the customer

    Advice to Management

Recognize quality contributors to the team and compensate them as such.

I have been working at Flowserve (More than a year)

    Pros

Flexible hours, attire, and interesting work drive the good things about working at Flowserve. The pay is at market level. Job security is fairly high even during a down oil and gas market.

    Cons

Communications tend to be spotty, confusing, and poorly timed. Most company communications come out right at 5PM near the end of the week. Executive vision for the company is not getting through to the employees who need it the most. Morale is low in 2016 and that should be recognized.

    Advice to Management

Trust your employees and communicate more openly. Ensure that executive directives trickle down to all employees.
