    Pros

Very talented, hardworking, smart team and good potential for the software.

    Cons

The founders will not permit the company to evolve from a service agency to a software company, continually hiring new agency people while preventing the SAAS side from hiring the people needed to make the company work, thus handicapping the side with real potential. Management spends large amounts on frivolous things while nickling and diming development. Too much white male frat bro attitude, not enough respect for tech chops.

    Advice to Management

Split the company. Founders, go run your agency, since that's what you like. Investors, make sure management puts enough money into the software so it can achieve lift-off instead of keeping the zombie agency alive.

Poor Management with little or no respect for people. There is little to no work life balance.

    Advice to Management

Remove the Managers from New York

    Pros

Stay at Fluid was great. Employees are not only smart yet also extremely talented and passionate about creating unique customized product ecommerce experiences. Expect Fluid to grow out of its shell as a midsize company to a large scale company and tackle on larger clients with global brands. One of the only companies where employees that work remotely actually do their work. Management allows team to work independently however has very high expectations for quality keeping everyone on their toes.

    Cons

New York office relies heavily on the collaboration with the SF office i.e. approval on expenses for example can take weeks since multiple levels of management need to sign off. Small day to day office operations can become a hassle or highly delayed due to intensely busy schedules of management.

    Advice to Management

Need to build a stronger bridge between the creative, sales, and engineering teams at the very least in the NY office. Additionally, the company seems to lack initiative on giving back the community (no model in place for social or environmental responsibility)

    Pros

Always about the people and Fluid has some great ones...plus a really fun culture
Doing some killer work for interesting brands
Truly innovative and a great place to learn

    Cons

Struggles with its two identities ... agency vs software
Running lean which makes some periods stressful
    Too many meetings

    Advice to Management

So far so good but need to start investing more in the people who do the work. This company needs 50 more people across roles including HR

I have been working at Fluid full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I'm always looking to shape/design the cutting edge of technology which is tricky because I need to be working with a company that maintains this cutting edge and experiments with new technology. Fluid does just this. It's a perfect match for my career goals/aspirations.

I really like everyone here, literally everyone. I think it also says a lot about a company when people don't leave. There are many people here who have been with the company since the beginning or for many years. Agencies I've worked for before this generally have a 1-2 year burn and churn.

I love that management is very generous with promotions.

Flexible hours are very important to me and that's here too.

    Cons

Inconsistent mixed nuts. Sometimes too salty and not roasted. They also run out too fast.

Would be great to fly business class but I realize that's a little excessive.

    Pros

Great small company with offices in SF and NY. Opportunity to really grow your career. Its a place where you can roll up your sleeves and take more on than with a large enterprise company. This company has a great niche in the marketplace and works on some pretty incredible projects with great clients. It's also a great place to start your career, gain valuable experience and move on to other top bay area companies. Some of our employees are now at senior positions with companies like Apple, Facebook, Google and Levi's. If you like to take initiative, then this is place where you will thrive. Last year was tough. Agencies have up and down years and this year the company is doing incredibly well. Its a great time to join the fun!

    Cons

Small company means less resources so you have to do more with less. Also, benefits aren't as good as places like other top bay area companies.

    Advice to Management

Keep thinking about the long-term strategy to keep the company growing

I worked at Fluid full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

There are great people to work with - very nice, driven. The offices in NY and SF are in good neighborhoods and are very pleasant.

    Cons

Fundamentally, Fluid doesn't really know how to run their business. They were continually selling engineering projects which they didn't know how to complete on time and on budget.

Also, they talked about innovation, but were selling a lot of agency projects for way under what they needed to be financially healthy and to have the budget to do good, unique design work for their clients. And they seemed to want UX to be all standardized - that doesn't make people want to stay.

The maternity benefits were also completely sub-par. That may have changed, but 6 weeks at below 100% pay just seems borderline hostile to women.

    Advice to Management

Decide if you want to be a shop for quality work or high project turnover. Then sell yourself in that way. Also, learn what you don't know and trust the people you hire who do know those things and let them fix it.

I worked at Fluid full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Awesome working environments in both SF and NYC. Dog friendly, beautiful open spaces, stocked kitchens. Great teams who routinely spend time together outside of work. This happens organically, and is also fostered by organized happy hours, team summits, etc. Reputation in the industry is very positive, and you get to work with some of the most innovative brands in digital! More importantly, the long term potential here is huge, as there is both a successful digital agency, and rapidly expanding SaaS business under one roof. Software technologies are in high demand, and face very little *productized competition.

    Cons

It's definitely a work hard (and play hard) environment. Like any agency, hiring is managed cautiously (rightly so), so when the volume of new business explodes it can create a ton of work for the existing teams while hiring catches up. Just need to recognize and be prepared for this. There is also room to expand the Marketing side, however management has already taken significant steps to address this. I expect this will improve in the very near term.

    Advice to Management

Continue to invest more in marketing, and continue to progress the joint software + services business model.
