I have been working at Fluidigm full-time for less than a year

    Pros

I've been with the company for almost 1/2 a year now and have seen mostly improvement in the quality of employee's joining the company (new thoughts, new enthusiasm etc) and the changes in Sr. Leadership. The company culture is one of hard work but acknowledgement of work life balance needs and a significant appreciation of employee's and their importance to the company. the Executive Leadership team is open and welcoming...

    Cons

Could improve cooperation between functional groups at times.

    Advice to Management

Would be effective I think to show more detailed information to employee's on quarterly progress towards goals.

Thank you! We are pleased that you’re noticing a wave of positive change at Fluidigm. We’re working on building an employee-centric and sustainable culture that’s right for Fluidigm. We still have work to do, including better cooperation and communication across functional groups ...

I worked at Fluidigm full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Used to focus on innovation. Currently, I don't see any pros for working in Research and Development at Fluidigm.

    Cons

In the last couple years, R&D has changed significantly at Fluidigm. For example, currently, there more directors and executives (n=10-12) than bench scientists (n=4-6). Thus, the bulk of the labor is piled on too few resources. Decision makers seem insecure and dysfunctional. Scientists are given little to no access to career development and/or the ability to collaborate and share research with the scientific community....

    Advice to Management

A clever and productive scientist is a resource to nurture. The diminution of project ownership, career development, and allowance for intellectual growth of your scientists will drive away any source of ingenuity and intelligence. The result will be a team of "yes-monkeys". Ego boosting, yes. Good for a high tech product development effort, absolutely not.

I worked at Fluidigm full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Fluidigm has unique technology and can do many things. scientists are nice and work hard.

    Cons

Marketing doesn't understand their products. marketing made bad decisions among projects. there is no vision for right projects. the commercial team members have no knowledge on their own platform. They often offer users what fluidigm platform can't do. The senior managers thought they knew the situation but actually not. Many strategies were made after things have happened; marketing flipped decisions to please...

train your marketing and commercial teams to learn the science. it is a small company, don't waste resources on huge HR team. respect the science, don't assume things.

I have been working at Fluidigm full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Professionally, this is the best organization I have worked at. The management is very supportive and listens to your concerns. The work is innovative and interesting. We are growing a lot here and we are still keeping the same collaborative culture of a small company.

    Cons

We are growing faster than we can absorb. It's very busy and can be very stressful at times, but it's all for a good cause!
