I worked at Fluidigm full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

The technology for single-cell, qPCR, and mass cytometry is solid. They compensate well. Benefits are average. Their logo is cool?

    Cons

Previous leadership team made some bad decisions, and the current leadership team has a poor/ mis-guided game plan to get the company back on track. Lot of turnover with layoffs and good people leaving, which leads to a lot of pressure on the remaining people to perform. And most of the remaining people are in roles for which they are not qualified. High stress. Chaotic at the...

    Advice to Management

No advice to management. But, advice to candidates... Do some homework on the leadership team, read the transcripts from their earnings calls, ask the tough questions, like 'what is the future of the company,' take note of the volume of Glassdoor reviews over the past year, and research the markets they are trying to penetrate.

I worked at Fluidigm full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

They have some great technology and lots of good people. Truly pioneers in the single cell space. Their future can be bright.

    Cons

Leadership is a mess. Unrealistic expectations. Unnecessary pressure and stress. Questionable ethics. Executives panicking because they don't know what to do to right the ship. Reorganizations to cover inherent flaws. Desperately launching products too early. They are not ready for the coming tsunami of competition.

    Advice to Management

Build infrastructure, tear down walls, stop putting people into jobs they don't know how to do, listen to and trust your people.

I worked at Fluidigm full-time for less than a year

    Pros

    Good people and technical staff

    Cons

Benefits are not at par with the industry. Very US centric Company

    Advice to Management

Get real and make sure your managers from the US have a good understanding of the local markets outside of the US. Singapore is a god ground to setup a Sales Entity, stop politics from making this happen, you can get good leverage and concessionary rates from the government being one of the pioneer Manufacturers in SG more so in the Bio/Life Science Industry.

I have been working at Fluidigm full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Good technology, may good workers, good intentions, a good merger with DVS. The Cytof seems to hold promise for targeted immunotherapy. They are moving in a clinical direction, however it is much to late in the game and the technology is not ideal for the clinical space.

    Cons

This company has dwindled down so far that there are two directions it can go: acquisition or bankrupt. Unfortunately, they have lost many of the good people who helped make it as successful as it had once been. However, this does not seem to concern the management who have the golden parachutes when the rip cord is pulled. The CEO seems like a genuine person, but perhaps not...

    Advice to Management

Here is some honesty: Do not allow managers on drugs to visit customers. Do not promote technical people to managers who have an alcohol problem. Do not promote managers who live far outside the territory and are brand new. Train you managers, train your people. Don't bring managers in from pharma...never a good idea. This seems like common sense. Listen to your people who are doing the work. To the CEO, do not sleep...

    Pros

Employees from the executive level down are genuinely good people. The products are cutting edge and the office location is ideal.

    Cons

Not many good lunch options closeby.

I worked at Fluidigm for more than a year

    Pros

Good location, easy commute from SF or peninsula.

    Cons

Fluidigm needs to move from a start-up to the next level but there's been no investment in the necessary infrastructure to get them there. Management has a silo mentality which has resulted in a lack of buy-in to the cross-functional solutions that will facilitate efficiency across departments. Because the processes are manual and inefficient, employees are struggling to perform core duties with little breathing room...

    Advice to Management

The CEO is surrounded by his executive team, isolated from the company as a whole. He needs to do a reality check to see what's really going on.
