I worked at Fluidigm full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Used to focus on innovation. Currently, I don't see any pros for working in Research and Development at Fluidigm.

    Cons

In the last couple years, R&D has changed significantly at Fluidigm. For example, currently, there more directors and executives (n=10-12) than bench scientists (n=4-6). Thus, the bulk of the labor is piled on too few resources. Decision makers seem insecure and dysfunctional. Scientists are given little to no access to career development...

    Advice to Management

A clever and productive scientist is a resource to nurture. The diminution of project ownership, career development, and allowance for intellectual growth of your scientists will drive away any source of ingenuity and intelligence. The result will be a team of "yes-monkeys". Ego boosting, yes. Good for a high tech product development effort, absolutely not.

"Great place to be a scientist; More challenging for engineers"

      I worked at Fluidigm full-time

      Pros

What stands out most about my experience at Fluidigm is how extraordinarily supportive the company was of its employees at a personal level. The company focused on employee development through a continuous training program driven by the HR team. In addition, during my time at the company, there were a number of people dealing with health or personal issues that impacted their ability to work. In all cases, the company...

      Cons

Professionally, I found Fluidigm to be good place for scientists to extend themselves, but not as much for engineers. In my experience, striking the balance between science and engineering is always a hard thing to manage. At the time I was there, science was completely in control. There are some extremely bright scientists there, and...

      Advice to Management

There have been major changes at the C-level of the company in the past few months. This change in leadership may present new opportunities as the company seeks new directions for growth. I would encourage candidates to seek to understand how the changes could create opportunities and a career path at the company in ways that may not have been previously available .

I have been working at Fluidigm full-time for less than a year

      Pros

Exciting product line, great outlook! Focused management with clear plans on success. Investing in excellent talent with true passion for the company and its success. Clear motivation on being the best at what they do.

      Cons

Unfortunately this forum appears to be a repository for those who may not always have the best outlook. Those that do, don't write on here to let others know the good. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, I agree. And yes, negative feedback is good, too!
