I worked at Fluidmaster, Inc. full-time

    Pros

    Pay and benefits were good

    Cons

In the last few years a type of class structure has begun to develop. Layers of management have been created to insulate each successive layer from the staff and the day to day activities. To the extent that Vice Presidents have no true connection to the people that make things happen at this company. As indicated in an earlier review, it is a one product company. A small company trying to be big based on the dollars that that one product has earned it.

    Advice to Management

As the title notes there are too many chiefs. The class structure that has developed needs to be reviewed and placed in check. The level of management that has no real purpose but to serve as a buffer between staff and the day to day activities needs a cold hard look. Fluidmaster has lost too many good productive, solid people in the last 5 years. This cannot be good for the future of the company. Senior management needs to review their own stated Rules and Ethics for management and staff. They need to make sure that these rules of ethical behavior are observed and exercised by management not used as tools to suppress the individuals doing the work.

I have been working at Fluidmaster, Inc. full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great work environment and people. The company provides excellent benefits and the 401(k) is better than any of my friends and family. I love working for a private company that values its employees.

    Cons

People pull together when needed and produce amazing results but at times it gets hectic.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you are doing. I feel very fortunate to work for such a great company. Some people don't realize how good they have it until they leave and reality hits.

  6. "Dysfunctional company to work for"

    Pros

Top notch compensation package (salary, benefits, 401k match)

    Cons

There is a lack of appreciation for young talent. Basically it seems you get promoted or considered for promotion based on your brown nosing skills and not your work. In addition some of the senior managers (Directors and VP's) are some of the most incompetent people I have ever worked for; they basically don't know how to build teams, don't know how to motivate people, and don't really contribute to much... They are not genuinely interested in your career growth and will only do what is in their best interest. Gosh, I seriously think they don't even know the meaning of coaching, mentoring, or any similar concept.
Also, there seems to be a lot of cross functional interaction, but not necessarily the constructive type. It seems that everyone is an expert on all different functional areas that are not related to the functional department they belong to. The worst interaction happens between the sales, marketing and engineering departments; if you are thinking about applying to work for any of those functional areas you should seriously reconsider.
Lastly, don't consider this as a place where you can build your career; the President has been saying that he is working on this for issue for years, and nothing. Basically everyone knows that he is just a talker just waiting to retire rich...

    Advice to Management

This company needs an entirely new management team. The only reason why people stay is because they pay them fairly well and their compensation package is top tier, otherwise turnover would be way higher.
