Used to be as good place to work
Oct 4, 2022 - Territory Sales Manager (TSM) in Milwaukee, WIRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Incredible line of tools. Great reputation for reliability and precision. Well known trademark. They provide a company vehicle and pay for gas. Field level management for the most part is excellent, talented, knowledgeable and available.
Cons
More and more every day. Where to even start. No work life balance. I've been working 65-70 hour weeks. I stay out multiple nights a week traveling. I don't get to see my wife or kids for days at a time. Management has set goals so high only 5% of people are hitting them which means commission checks are barely worth the paper they are printed on. Micromanagement and bullying/threats are the only ways they know of to push for results. There is no acceptable reason to not hit outrageous, nearly laughable goals. And they keep moving the goalpost of what success is at random, while adding more responsibilities and tasks regularly. They watch over your shoulder on everything you do. And if you miss even one, you get called to task and your job is threatened. You have to sell other lines for which you don't get credit or commission. And you will constantly waste your time, rather than making sales but doing busy work you know will have zero return, just to check a box so they won't threaten to fire you. Upper management has no idea what we sell or how we even go to market. They fired the upper management team that knew what they were doing with no notice for no other reason than to just get rid of them so there's no employee loyalty, even to people that have given decades of their life to the company. They do not have any human sympathy or empathy. And there is a vacuum where a conscience should be. They have no concept of responsibility, if they make a mistake, they will blame everyone else for it. There is also the poor decisions coming from the company that have truly enraged many of our business partners. And we have priced ourselves out of several markets with price increases making sales extremely difficult. Making commission checks less. And do NOT offer any kind of criticism or feedback. They don't want it and they will fire you for it. Moral has fallen off a precipice over the last year, and while a good number of people have left. I'm waiting for it to break with a mass Exodus.

If you're excited to work and look forward to making things change, do not apply.

You could be graced with nice co-workers - and if you're an office worker, you're likely to have a decent computer and the software you need.
Cons
- managers are treating their teams badly, demanding results that are not possible and even the receptionists are treating possible hires horribly (I had the pleasure of meeting a lady who didn't have the patience to point me in the right direction when I came to the office for my first interview). - When trying to bring in new ideas you're fighting against the machine to reach the top level - if you ever will. - Management is too focused on the corporate rituals and profits and not focused enough on the well-being of their employees. - You never get thanked for your efforts

Pros
Everything management told me would happen has and that's all I can ask for. Transparency and clear communication.
Cons
Not a huge con but the local culture can improve and I see that happening slowly.

Good pay, great work, good people, too lean in the wrong areas.
Oct 16, 2015 - Production Manager in Everett, WARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
World class products, excellent branding, good benefits and compensation package.
Cons
Daily micro management embraced at a counterproductive level in many areas with insufficient resources to achieve objectives.

Good place to gain experience, but company applies questionable business practices.
Apr 24, 2010 - in Everett, WARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
- Stock price - company continues to perform well and if you own stock or have stock options, you'll do well financially. Compensation is robust if you are a middle or senior level manager. If you aren't, then this won't be a pro. - They apply lean tools and methodology pretty well and continually drive process improvement across all areas/functions of the company. - Company embraces change and few question or challenge the change. The company takes the approach of "let's try it and if it doesn't work, we'll go back to the way it was." Don't read into this that it is ok to make mistakes - it isn't. One is expected not to make mistakes.
Cons
- Career development is a problem here. Management expects one to deliver results, take on more responsibility, and promotions are few. If you interview there, ask the hiring manager how many people have been promoted - not a title change or reassignment to another area, but an actual promotion. Few people are promoted from within; most are external hires in developing management roles (MBAs). Read others comments on MBAs vs Engineers - their comments are correct. Engineers are not highly value in this company, which values business leaders over engineers. - Stock performance is impressive and the Danaher Business System is only partly responsbile for the company's success. Don't get me wrong here, DBS is a good toolkit, but most of the success of the stock price is due to their saavy in applying creative, questionable ways/methods to improve numbers. - Very short term focused company - not at all interested in long term opportunities with a longer wait for a return on their investment. - Little respect for their employees. They reduced everyone's salary by 5% in 2009 (10% if you worked at Tektronix) to make their numbers better at their employees' expense.

Wrings the life out of you. Execs turn blind eye to blatant Management issues.
Nov 2, 2014 - Marketing in Everett, WARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
It is slightly better than unemployment.
Cons
Inexperienced Director level employees have no clue what is going on. Long hours for salaried employees while upper levels take credit for work.HR is useless and has their own agenda which is dictated by the abusers in power. All management with any experience or compassion have left the company over the last 3 years since the inept management was hired. Company benefits slowly decreased to bare minimums.

Plenty of growth opportunities if you are up to the challenge
Sep 29, 2015 - Process Engineer in Seattle, WARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
1. Management is often supportive of the projects you want to tackle if there isn't a major fire. 2. For the ambitious, there is always room to take on more projects as long as the quality of your work isn't jeopardized. 3. Management is supportive of development growth, whether it be continuing education (flexible schedule to attend class, tuition reimbursement, etc.) or future opportunities within the organization. 4. If you can present data and ROI, management will often take your proposals seriously. 5. Very talented and intelligent staff. 6. There are continuing endeavors to improve organizational engagement. 7. Extremely high accuracy products with great brand reputation. 8. A great place for those interested in lean operations and continuous improvement.
Cons
1. If there is an emergency, you can expect to stay late until the problem is resolved. 2. Because the company is so lean, one often has to become the point-of-contact for several facets of the business and wear several hats. 3. Sometimes the business can be more reactive rather than proactive due to lack of resources. 4. Due to the lean nature of the company, projects can sometimes stall as resources get allocated to higher priority projects.

May be loosing the culture - not too late to fix.
May 15, 2016 - Engineer in Everett, WARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
- Incredible people to work with. Lots of 30+ year veterans who know their job, the markets and the customers. - Flexibility with mid and lower level management to get the job done and handle work / life balance issues. - A long, proud tradition of servings customers with products that meet their needs. - There are a lot of opportunities inside the company for career advancement.
Cons
- New engineering management put in place since early 2015 doesn't know the company history, and missed what made Fluke great. More likely to tell you your wrong then to ask questions and seek to understand. - Starting to focus more on competitors and technology hype over understanding customer need. - Poor listing and communication with senior management.

Mar 11, 2012 - MFG ManagerRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Leader in Lean and TPS. Very customer focused. You will gain a lot of experience in a short period of time. Promotions and opportunities are available on a planned rotation basis for many salaried positions.
Cons
Business improvement expectations can be unreasonably high over a short time period. Management may grill you on problems and countermeasures but not take the time to help you work through the problems.
