    I worked at Fluor full-time

    Pros

Fluor's commercial group is exceptionally professional with a very positive culture - great people with long tenures, so many fun "back in the day" stories!!

    Cons

Within the commercial group, I experienced none worth noting.

From the perception of others, the comments regarding what I would call legacy employees are certainly true - many father/son and father/daughter legacies, which are often "perceived" (not by me) as a negative. That said, in my experience, every legacy employee I encountered was a strong player in their own right and certainly earned their way. The perception is due to doors being opened (new hires, growth opportunities, for instance) that may not have occurred without the legacy connection.

Flipping it around, what a very positive message about the company and its culture to send your children into the very same company! If Fluor was less than a great place to build a career, this (referring one's children to the company) would certainly not happen.

    Advice to Management

Such a struggle for all employers to move away from past "good ole boys" history where it exists, but - with proper alignment - that comradeship and team spirit and "friends for years" culture is exactly what has made Fluor strong and precisely what needs to be maintained. I'd suggest toning down the PC programs and rhetoric that have emerged in recent years - the doors are now fully open to women and minorities in all areas of the company, no question. Respectfully suggest that performance-based talent management practices will continue to take the company forward into the leaner times ahead.

I worked at Fluor full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I really enjoyed working for Fluor in the HR department. From day one, everyone was very welcoming. The benefits were fantastic. And my supervisors had an open door policy so I could speak with them whenever I had questions. Fluor really makes you feel valued.

    Cons

The only con I can think of is that I no longer work for them. I resigned for personal reasons that had nothing to do with work. I wished I had thought longer about that decision.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good work. And if you need anyone in HR in Southern California again, let me know.
