Great pay, but too damn political
May 10, 2016 - Anonymous Contractor in KabulRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
High pay. Great R&R times (up to 21 days and 4 per year) Sign on and completion bonuses as well.
Cons
Its a contract in a warzone. The conditions are rough, but the pay is good. Don't look for convenience. Earn a living and stick to your goals. Super political atmosphere. Everyone in management is either corrupt to some degree, or a snake. Felt like the upper management was more deadly to your work environment than the Taliban. They will find any excuse to fire you and give very little to no arbitration through HR. They just want to replace entry level workers with foreign nationals that they can subcontract the work out to for 20-30,000 per year.

Pros
Located in California. The work environment is pleasant and clean. People are nice and friendly. I met the nicest people there.
Cons
Traditionalist old company, absolute resistance to changes. Very difficult IT environment to work. I met some of the most obnoxious, rude, and ill-suited IT managers that I have ever worked with.

Process Specialist
Sep 8, 2017 - Process Specialist in Calgary, ABRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
- Lots of in-house technical expertise - Excellent projects and work environment to develop as a technical expert - Great network of young professionals and opportunities to network
Cons
- If you are not on a project, work can be very boring - Not many formal training opportunities - Conferences, volunteering for the company, and any committees are on employees own time and frowned upon if you do not attend. I was not happy I was booked for an unpaid training session on the weekend of Halloween - Lots of cuts recently, employee morale very low - Very secretive with layoffs - Sick days are taken as vacation / flex days. ie. people still come to work while sick because they don't want to lose on vacation time!

Being a project hire it wasn't good.
Jun 13, 2017 - Project Document Controller in RiyadhRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Good benefits. Lots of learning. Professional and friendly work environment. Great team work. Company hires definitely have more advantages compare to project hires.
Cons
Lack of coordination with employees by management. No family status and health insurance for family members. Long working hours for Project hire employees.

The only reason to work for Fluor is for the compensation
Cons
The work environment is all very small cubicles the size of a small closet in a hallway. This is even the case for managers and consultants. There is no distinction. The other aspect is that they swing between massive 40% plus layoffs followed a few years later by gigantic hiring. It is common for they to make you stay at home without pay if there isn't a contract to charge to. If you are over the age of 50 you have no career path. All of the emphasis is on the younger workers. The younger people must realize that there is no career path after around 45.
