    Pros

Benefits. That's it. Insurance is great if you're in the union. This place is a huge joke. It's a circus. Who in their right mind wants to stay here

    Cons

Everything. From management to other employees. This hospital is like hospice. You come here to die, not live. This is not a place you want to retire from

    Advice to Management

Doesn't matter how many degrees you have or how you use your friends and hook ups here to get away with thing....everyone is human. From the people who save life's in the ER to the please who cleans the floors. Respect everyone. And that's the number one this this hospital does NOT know how to do.

I have been working at Flushing Hospital Medical Center (More than a year)

    Pros

This hospital is easy to access by bus. The volunteer program is great! Each time I volunteered, I was in a different department, so it was great to get each experience. Most of the staff, doctors, and nurses were nice.

    Cons

Parking is a headache! Parts of the building are old in structure, and it's not as up to date. It's not a big hospital.

I worked at Flushing Hospital Medical Center full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Very Friendly work-staff, lots of hand-on experience. Learned to work independently very quickly. Will be very confident in the "real-world" as a result of working here.

    Cons

Usually under-staffed, it's an older hospital without a lot of "fancy" things, but this is as you'd expect at any community hospital in NYC. Not a lot of variety of "rare" cases to learn from, but you will learn the "bread and butter" very well.

    Advice to Management

#1 complaint of the residents each year seems to be quality of the food provided for lunches. Thank heavens there is a Dunkin Donuts across the street. We are hungry and working hard, please be sympathetic! Other than that, no complaints!

    Cons

Commute is terrible if you work in the morning & if you don't pay to park then it's hard to find street parking

    Advice to Management

This place need a face lift! Lol

It's a learning hospital. You can excel

I have been working at Flushing Hospital Medical Center full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Understanding director, great co-workers, I worked in the community I grew up in.

    Cons

Unfortunately a lack of promotion, plus low wages (even thought the 1199 benefits were definitely worth it)

    Advice to Management

Make decision on how to better motivate employees to do their jobs to the best of their capabilities, which will in turn bring better reviews on FHMC by the patients.

  10. "HIM department at FHMC is the most unprofessional trap to be caught in"

I worked at Flushing Hospital Medical Center full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

1199 union benefits, contaact with other divisions of fhmc and staff are positive.
This review is based solely on the HIM department

    Cons

discrimination, harassment, favoritism, unprofessional and dishonest supervisor, assistant director and director.

    Advice to Management

Investigate the director and how the department is being run. It is unfair to the hard working employees that are caught in the unfairness and instability and corruption going on around them.
