    Pros

It is fun to work with fellow students, and to have managers who are used to employing students. They are generally sensitive to school-related issues and time conflicts. Follett Values cards are actually a pretty neat way to give and receive praise.

    Cons

Training procedures are dated and highly "corporate." Some managers are unnecessarily harsh or somewhat unprofessional. Wages are very low and raises must be very actively pursued.

    Advice to Management

Good job, for the most part. I'd love for training videos and procedures to be revamped and possibly expanded to apply to more low-level positions.

    Pros

I liked how my supervisor was skilled and knowledgable in every aspect of my job. And this because he was promoted from my position.

    Cons

I had a lot of repetition in my day to day to duties and I missed the creativity I have had in other positions.

    Advice to Management

Keep promoting from within. Try to give some type of bonus to all of your employees at christmas. Continue eating in the cafeteria with staff.

    Pros

Well structured. There seems to be a relatively clear delineation of responsibilities, at least in the big stores. Everyone is held accountable. Generally fun environment for a bookstore setting.

    Cons

Fundamentally relies on text-books. It is a leader in a dying industry. Sometimes, work can feel too corporatized. There is a high turn-over rate with entry level staff, and even some lack of reliability with other store positions.

I worked at Follett part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I worked in a campus book store. Fast-paced, pleasant co-workers and managers. Fun to work with other students.

    Cons

General retail stress. Some customers would be stressed from messed up financial aid and other financial issues that we were powerless to sort out.
