I have been working at Food Lion part-time

    Pros

Relaxed atmosphere and flexible scheduling most of the time. It is easy to feel part of the team after a few weeks.

    Cons

Being cross-trained is something I was told would be no problem. After 5 months, I still have yet to see another department.

    Advice to Management

Take note of employees personal situation before scheduling, especially when it is something that has been discussed with all members of management.

I worked at Food Lion part-time

    Pros

I got to work with an incredibly diverse group of people from a variety of different backgrounds.
Interesting to see how some food is prepared for sale at grocery stores.
I had amazing managers at both the Blacksburg, VA and Ruckersville, VA locations.

    Cons

Spending much almost all time on your feet can ware on you, but I got used to it after a couple of weeks. The only part I hated about the job was the clean up before closing. I was scheduled to work until 9, but often found myself there 30 minutes or even an hour later closing up when I first started.

    Advice to Management

Perhaps close the deli a little sooner so associates can get out sooner.

I have been working at Food Lion part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Paid time off, Holiday, Sick hours, Request time off, and promotion. I'm a office assistant and being in that position is a lot of responsibility. We play the role of a service associate, cashier when needed, running the front end, lunches giving cashiers money when needed, doing western union, and lottery, as well as doing our accounting close and office paperwork. If your high performer, you handle ordering change orders, lottery tickets, and learning upper management stuff. We also do coin star. We are the next potential Customer Service Managers.

    Cons

Low pay, and yearly raises aren't much. The amount of work required doesn't match the compensation unless you stay for years and continue to move up.

    Advice to Management

Pay attention to those who Job Performance is outstanding and people who are willing to step up to the plate. I've learned that its more to who you know, rather what you know.
