I worked at Foresters Financial part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The sales assistant position at foresters financial was a great part time job while I was attending university. I worked 2-3 days a week and was compensated very fairly. My schedule was very flexible and I had the ability to learn valuable skills while working.

    Cons

I am not sure if this is the same for all people in my position or just because I had a really great boss.

    Pros

Great managers, good attitude and a positive atmosphere. Close knit attention given every day.

    Cons

Difficult to reach the goals set by corporate. The managers seek to help as much as they can, but it can be tricky to learn, prospect, and train at the same time.

    Advice to Management

Great local support, the corporate center needs to give more flexibility and power to the branch managers.

I have been working at Foresters Financial full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Management Team is very supportive, lots of opportunities to make clients at trade shows and school event; administrative support is positive and good. Not a super strong team dynamic, but everyone is really helpful if you ask.

    Cons

1st year is rough...even with a starting salary, the learning curve is just so high that its very easy to get discouraged. Especially if you're not an extremely dynamic individual. No work/life balance, at least if you plan on being successful. This job is great for someone who's extremely self-confident and willing to ride the ups and downs of the job.

    Advice to Management

Hire people with thick skins. Maybe be a bit more upfront about the challenges new hires face.

I worked at Foresters Financial full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The management team is very good at the Detroit office. Any questions you might have are answered right away. You will learn a lot working there. Base salary was a plus also.

    Cons

Lots of late nights. A lot of driving also. Its a sink or swim industry. They want you to solicit significantly to your natural market, which I didn't care for.

    Advice to Management

I just think that more hands on training would be helpful. Management also has to maintain their own client base which can make the time constraints tougher to overcome when training. I would describe the process like the South Park underpants gnome thing: STEP 1-Prospect, ..., STEP 3-Profit. Just spend more time illustrating how to get from A to B.

    Pros

Company culture was the best. Call center environment without the usual call center behaviors. Upper management were very approachable and acessable. Very clean work environment.

    Cons

Pay was on the low side for me but seems to be the going rate.

I worked at Foresters Financial full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Foresters Financial has a very good work/life balance, especially for the industry that it's in. The location of the office is quite convenient as well.

    Cons

The work is very individual, the environment among the co-workers is largely very formal. The career path is not a direct or simple one in most cases.

    Advice to Management

Fostering a more inclusive and positive corporate culture would improve the morale of the employees significantly.

-Must do a lot of learning about the market on your own even though you are told managers will teach you.
