I have been working at Foresters Financial full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

In order to succeed in this business or any true career that requires commitment, work ethic and drive, even the most talented and capable individual needs the right environment, people and ultimately development - both personal and professional. Having been in the industry now for almost 7 years, I have experienced a lot of people in similar careers but without anywhere close to the resources or the family-like atmosphere we have here (especially in the Indianapolis office). Not only do I feel I am contributing to my clients and making a difference everyday, I am also surrounded by a group of people who are just as passionate and are different than me in many ways (which helps me grow as an individual because I gain from their strengths). This can be a very individualistic career, but if you have a team around you, it makes a world of a difference.

    Cons

When you do have a team though, we can get in each other's hairs (much like a family) and we experience growing pains. But that is all part of the growth process! As we learn more about ourselves as well as each other.

    Advice to Management

It takes a healthy balance of nurture and discipline. You have to have both... a genuine care for the success of the individual coupled with the courage to speak the truth and keep the person accountable (call them out in a loving way). That is the only way they will grow.

I worked at Foresters Financial full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

They without a doubt invest a lot in you with the training program and the first couple months are full of learning.

    Cons

Much more of a sales driven career as opposed to financial planning, but nonetheless a good start for someone going into financial services. Calling and friends and family first is very uncomfortable sometimes.

    Advice to Management

The 60 hour work weeks to start are a bit much and appointment setting goals are hardly ever reached by anyone, which might be a bit discouraging for most.

    Pros

Good work - life balance; managers can be very accommodating. A lot of mobility within the company if you're interested. Overall a lot of opportunity accompanied with a great atmosphere.

    Cons

Fairly high turnover in employees, due in part to employees seeking other opportunities within the company. Some technologies seem outdated & could be streamlined.

    Advice to Management

Employee retention & work with universities to bring fresh minds to the company.

I have been working at Foresters Financial full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Foresters is a great company to work for. They are very supportive of their employees and promote internally. There is a lot of room for upward movement and growth within the company. All of the higher level management such as branch managers started as financial representatives and worked their way to success. It's an extremely encouraging environment that allows for both team and independent work styles to succeed. They are good about team bonding and outside events that bring their employees together.

    Cons

You have to be self motivated to succeed. Not necessarily a con, but your performance does affect your position in the company.

    Advice to Management

I like the way management handles their new hires and brings them on board. Keep doing what you're doing and continue the supportive work style!
