    Pros

    Good product. Company seems to keep up to date with what is going to happen in the semiconductor world and trend their moves accordingly.

    Cons

    A little bit away from Silicon Valley, but Livermore Downtown is a fun place to unwind after work.

    I worked at FormFactor full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    -Cutting edge technology.
    -Fast paced work environment.
    -There is an incredible group of manufacturing staff in the Carlsbad office.
    -As an engineer, you wear a lot of different hats.
    -Good place to work for new grad engineers.

    Cons

    -Crippling pressure to get things right the first time. No tolerance or understanding when mistakes are made even when they are trivial and can be resolved.
    -The work can become a little stale and monotonous.
    -VERY steep learning curve.

    Advice to Management

    Break up the engineering department in Carlsbad and hire some continuous improvement engineers.

    Pros

    Great technical challenges and great colleagues

    Cons

    A flat and confusing organizational structure where senior management team micro-manages to the point where middle managers become reluctant to make any decisions and become de-motivated.

    many insulated pockets of people that are "connected" and held to different expectations

    Senior management team does not want to hear ANY constructive criticism. Products are very low in production numbers and are very very high in complexity. When something goes wrong, which could usually not possibly ever be predicted, Senior management criticism is often swift and extreme and often becomes very personal. Lots of "Monday morning quarterbacking" (with of course, the crystal clear benefits of having hindsight)

    Advice to Management

    Move away from the micro-management style. Recognize that some projects start with an unrealistic schedule and will require a miraculous execution to pull off successfully and ease up on the personal attacks when the team falls a bit short, instead find ways to improve the process and invest in safer levels of staffing in order to have more predictable performance. Many functions are ridiculously understaffed.

    Pros

    The work at the company is very interesting and the pay is very competitive for an internship. Interns were not allowed to negotiate their pay but it was far above what I was expecting.

    Cons

    Company morale is very low and it sometimes feels like the company is just treading water. Very few of the interns got full time job placement.

    Advice to Management

    The intern program should engage the students more in areas outside of what they were working in. Interns only got to focus on their individual task.

    Pros

    Good salary and nice people. Profitable now and paying bonuses.

    Cons

    Some bad hiring decisions take a long time to be corrected. Too much "us" "them" mentality between Cascade Microtech in Beaverton versus FormFactor in Livermore and nothing being done at management level (especially Finance or HR) to build a "team" between the two. Why? Lack of HR leadership at top. Lack of awareness of what's happening in Finance.

    Advice to Management

    Listen to your staff. They know what needs to change or be done differently but nobody is asking for their input.

    Pros

    Small city, close to cafe.

    Cons

    Far away, traffic is bad.

    Advice to Management

    Move it to Dublin.

    Exciting Technology and Great commercial potential.

    Inconsistent direction, ok strategies but bad follow-thru'. Significant issue with implementation

    Stay true to course. Be consistent - changing directions destroy creditbility and undermine morale
