I worked at Fort Valley State University full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Teaching at this institution was rewarding because the students really need guidance and a true education.

    Cons

Administration team changes every other year. Presidents are hired who have no leadership degrees or experience and who come to the institution's culture unaware of the types of employees who are in leadership or chair positions. In addition, nepotism and African-American preference rules at this institution. If you are really interested in making a difference, do not apply to this institution.

    Advice to Management

Examine the expertise of all employees (faculty and staff) who work at the institution. Some employees have been promoted based on nepotism versus knowledge and skills.

I worked at Fort Valley State University full-time

    Pros

Only a few employees truly care about their jobs. Little supervision. Small work environment so you get know everyone quickly.

    Cons

The rest are collecting checks and fail to realize how harmful their actions are to the university and its long-term future. Entirely too much drama. Do not provide enough professional development opportunities

    Advice to Management

Need to hire younger staff and faculty. Model their business operations after other traditional universities in the state.
