I worked at Fortinet full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I worked for Fortinet a little over 2 years. I was unhappy how they handled my green card process and decided to leave. I brought up the situation to our CEO on New years eve. I got a "Happy new year!" from him. I was told that they would improve quick. He is truely a kind-hearted gentleman^_^

Soon the SVP of Human Resource scheduled a phone with me to understand the problems and ordered a full review of my green card process. I gave him a summary. He was very kind and tried finding out how they could improve and keep me there. I am grateful for what he did. I was impressed how much he cares.

Even I decided to leave, the Senior HR Director sat down with me to understand my experience and came up with plans to make the green card process easier for others colleagues in the engineering teams.

I belive the green card process will be improved. I am happy for others.

    Cons

Please improve the communication between different teams such as HR and engineering. Please get more resource for the green card process. Jackie alone is not able to keep up with many green card processes.

    Advice to Management

Please keep belive in the employees and make more profits. Plese raise our salaries:)

I worked at Fortinet as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

I enjoyed my time working for Fortinet and the Training Operations team. The company was supportive, I appreciated working with the team and was very impressed by the products Fortinet has.

    Cons

I only wish I had been a full time employee instead of a contractor.

I have been working at Fortinet full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Excellent compensation
    Good learning curve
    Good work-life balance
    (*Depends on the Team Manager)

    Cons

Some teams function like start-ups without any order.
No facilities like gym and food in cafeteria.

    Advice to Management

    - More facilities has to be provided for employees like cafeteria food and gym since the company is growing and there are around 1000 employees in the campus.
    - Mail rooms should be managed better - anyone can pick a box just by just saying any name.
    - Ergonomic assessment should be considered while an employee is initially assigned a desk.
    - Acquired companies should be guided better to align with the company to perform effectively.
    - Cultural festivals could be celebrated in office instead of Bingo and Lucky draw for every occasion.

I worked at Fortinet full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

It is a company that is continuing to grow in the network security space with a focus on intellectual property development.

    Cons

The company places huge emphasis on the sales organization and next would come engineering. However, I feel that the support organization (i.e., marketing, finance, IT, HR, legal) is often shortchanged and overlooked by management.

    Advice to Management

While a growing stock price helps to keep employees on board for a period of time, it doesn't necessarily foster long term loyalty. Fortinet has been cash flow positive for quite some time now, but it really doesn't spend much money on its employees. In order to attract the most dynamic talent, you need to work on some of your incentives.

    Pros

You will be successful if you comfortable working in a Chinese management style company. Typical salary and benefits for industry and Bay Area.

    Cons

Cheap/frugal on expenses. If you are an acquired company, expect your tenure to last 12 -18 months max, especially if you are a manager or above. Limited internal promotion movement. Lots of senior management turnover.

I worked at Fortinet full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Fortinet has some very good products. The pay is in the mid to upper levels, and the benefits were excellent. The new HQ looks nice and is pleasant to work in.

    Cons

There's a huge problem with both cronyism AND nepotism, where many of the people hired are neither qualified nor capable. There's everything from previous models to reality show contestants to shoe salespeople handed responsibility for things they know nothing about.

The qualified senior managers last about 6-9 months and then leave. Most cite the CEO's difficult nature and lack of business sense as the reason.

Many senior executives who do stay with the company are there, because of their expert ability to flatter and say yes to the CEO.

    Advice to Management

Hire a qualified CEO who understands people and process - understanding technology simply isn't enough.
