I have been working at Fortino's Supermarkets part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Co-workers are the reason I enjoyed working. It was fun to talk to them and work with them. Some really nice customers.

    Cons

Terrible pay, no growth, some great managers and some terrible ones. Franchisee was a clown and a jerk to his employees. No benefits.

    Advice to Management

Treat people with respect. We don't get paid enough for what you expect.

I have been working at Fortino's Supermarkets part-time

    Pros

The job itself is easy and you're supposed to be allowed to stick up for yourself with rude customers. Cons outweigh the pros.

    Cons

    -horrible, disrespectful management
    -always understaffed
-due to the union, a large percentage of workers don't actually work after probationary period
-barely have enough product which results in angry customers
-sexual and verbal harassment is common but often hidden. Observed multiple times with managers as well.

    Advice to Management

Respect your employees. Observe both sides before reacting with employee related complaints.(not customer complaints, I'm speaking about issues between employees). Give a compliment every once in a while to allow employees to feel at least slightly appreciated.

I worked at Fortino's Supermarkets part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

There are none, don't kid yourself. If I could rate this company -2 stars I would. Unfortunately, this app forces you to at least rate the company 1 star. Congrats fortinos ..... you're rated 1 golden star by default.

    Cons

I personally, worked at Mall Rd fortinos. Everyone is so up their own butts that looking out for other employees is foreign. People like to spend their breaks smack talking others and then 5 minutes later they pretend their bffs with everyone. This is not a suitable place to work for students. You may think they seem flexible with hours but this is only if you're considered a "favourite". Now, here at my store you have the chance to be considered a favourite if you are a) a male species b) reasonably good looking and c) are a cashier helper of some sort. If you do not fall into 2/3 criteria then good luck. You probably won't last.

    Advice to Management

Grow the hell up. Management of cash IS THE PROBLEM. They fuel the fire. They hear about other employees smack talking and basically encourage them to keep it up. Word of advice: get your act together before someone complains to the labour board. But guess what... you're a little late for that. People have already took it upon themselves to go to the labour board about your favouritism. Good luck getting out of this one. You've already dug your hole too deep.

    Xoxo

    I worked at Fortino's Supermarkets part-time

    Pros

Free CPR/First Aid training with the union, union card gives small discounts to different places, dental benefits

    Cons

Franchisees have minimal interest in the employees who are not management, overly concerned with how employees engage with customers to a point where it becomes forced and disingenuous.
