I worked at FortisBC full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

It pays my bills & because its situated in the lower mainland, its still within commuting distance. Despite the high parking fees associated with working during the wee hours.

    Cons

A good number of people who enter the company is bound to start at rock bottom. With the new management and its way of "reducing costs", its compromising employee's health and well being. High turnover rate due to unhealthy & dis-grunted employees.

Firstly, temporary employees do not get any health benefits. The minuscule amount added to the paycheck is nothing in comparison to the benefits.

When you're on temp, you're expected to work inhumane hours. This could mean working a 4pm-midnight shift, then coming back the next morning for 8am-4pm shift. There is 8 hour difference, so they think its fine to mandate employees to work these shifts if they have shortage (if full-time permanent employees are taking extensive vacations).

Parking is at $100 per month. There's no way around it if you are working at a time when the buses don't run. You can claim it as "Taxable income". Great, higher income bracket at the end of the year.

Work environment is not healthy. Because the senior level CSRs are getting the higher income, they are put into more queues. The lack of sufficient training and experiences is pushing the senior level employees to look elsewhere. Employees coming from Surrey are able to retain seniority and trumps the Burnaby crew. As an employee from Burnaby, your seniority is lost once transferred to Surrey.

    Advice to Management

Cutting costs while sacrificing the quality of customer service is the WORST way to go. Treat your employees right, regardless of the seniority/experience level. It pays off in the long run. Smart companies are the best benchmark for this. I am surprised FortisBC has not caught up with this.

    Pros

People are great and atmosphere is good, the company do try to make a difference to employees and the communities it touches.

    Cons

Trying to get any training is near on impossible, the company always appears to be on the back foot and there is never any time, even though budget is allocated for training you never get chance to use it.
