I have been working at Fortna full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Working from home is a plus. The co-workers who travel and work on site are some of best i've ever known.

    Cons

The structure is top heavy with VP's, Director's, and other non-billable exec's. The incentive plan is no longer and the one's who produce and install the product no longer receive any type of bonus.

    Advice to Management

Call time out and regroup. Get back to the principals that made Fortna a great company at one time even if it means bringing back the key talent that was let go for reasons unknown.

    I worked at Fortna full-time

    Pros

Ability to work from home. Middle management is a great group of people who are now struggling to hold on to their jobs.

    Cons

A great many layoffs in 2017, with no warning. This is causing a hostile work environment. Upper management is top heavy and have no clear direction. There are no bonuses or raises forecasted for the coming year.

I have been working at Fortna

    Pros

The people are friendly and work hard. They provide remote and global opportunities depending on Client requirements. We truly care about our Clients’ best interest and value the relationship built with the Client.

    Cons

It’s a difficult work life environment. There have been a significant amount of organizational changes that have not provided any visible benefit. Even though Executive Management has accepted responsibility for the state of the organization, there have been no changes at that level. The company is very top heavy with very few females in management positions. Women at Fortna have very little opportunity for... upward mobility.

    I worked at Fortna full-time

    Pros

Most people there are friendly and easy to work with. Ability to work from home.

    Cons

Very top heavy and like to micromanage. Hire you for your experience and knowledge and then tell you what to do instead of listening to what needs to be done. Unrealistic goals and timelines and not enough resources or budget to achieve. Your not allowed to have an opinion other than theirs or your labeled. Morale is at all time low.

    Advice to Management

Trust the people you hire and stop micromanaging. Don't just hire Yes men, hire and retain individuals that aren't looking to keep things as they are but to move the company where it needs to be CORRECTLY to be able to handle the global market it's trying to break into. Your strategic moves are having a negative impact. Dont just focus on one area. Your foundation is crumbling and will not be able support the... efforts you have been relocating money too.

I have been working at Fortna full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Good companies as clients, good people to work with, industry experts, pay and benefits are above average.

    Cons

Projects consume your life here. No personal time; expect nights and weekends. Limited budgets and resources at times so you must take up the slack by working almost non stop. Lots of processes but not always followed. Top heavy company; to many managers. CEO micromanages and is known to be condescending and dresses people down. People are afraid to be honest with him. Company has been putting in a career planning... structure but managers not held accountable to have career discussions or work career issues with employees. Layoffs this year have caused morale to be low. People keep their heads down and try not to attract attention.

    Advice to Management

Have more discipline around sustaining processes. Require managers to interact with their people; ie. career management and constant performance feedback. While there is a lot of communication still not sure how the company will grow again after stalling the last 2 years. Leadership team needs to be more collaborative with all employees. Need to see more of you.

I have been working at Fortna full-time for less than a year

    Pros

IT group is among the best I've seen. Opportunity to work from home. Company is in growth mode which creates lots of job opportunities.

    Cons

Good old boys culture. Top-heavy management. Internal systems are being updated, which is good, however, employees who have been with the company for several years are resistant to moving away from manual processes and are resistant to change. Departments do not work well or communicate well with each other. Lack of accountability.

    Advice to Management

Communication and cooperation between internal departments is crucial to reach company goals. Management needs to hold Associates accountable and stress to them the importance of change needed in order to reach company goals.

    I worked at Fortna

    Pros

good salary, ability to work from home

    Cons

top heavy management, too many layers. Departments do not communicate well. Work from home isn't always good for the business and hinders cross-departmental communication.

    Advice to Management

Cut the layers of management, get lean. Let the guys who know what they're doing do it and teach.

I worked at Fortna full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

During my tenure, the company grew substantially both domestically and internationally. Salaries and benefits are good. HR works hard to keep packages competitive. Good IT group - the friendliest I've dealt with in my career and they quickly resolve issues. Company recruits experts in the field of warehouse management. Growth opportunities abound (as long as you're not an engineer).

    Cons

Company has become an alpha-dog boys club. If you enjoy swimming with sharks you may well excel at Fortna. If you have a family or a hobby that matters to you, the clock is ticking on your career. Extraordinarily top-heavy structure. Directors to directors to directors to VPs to Executive VPs. It's nearly impossible to figure out who is in charge of anything. Accountability suffers and problems are largely blamed... on engineering staff. Engineers are shut out of growth opportunities. Engineers are required to provide 24/7 support of client sites throughout the world, leading to a situation where you are essentially always at work...weekends, holidays, even your vacations. Staff are perpetually on the verge of burn-out.

    Advice to Management

Reduce management. 1/3 of the company is a director or vice president. These positions come with hefty salaries, leaving those who actually do the work fighting for scraps. Understand that staff are afraid to point out problems for fear of retribution. All is not well, but the multiple layers of self-serving directors are squelching reality. The nebulous layers of management make accountability a severe challenge.... This has given rise to finger-pointing and many staff level people being "thrown under the bus."
